Need some advice .when I walk my bike backwards .I get the sound of rubber and the cog move about 5 mm before the wheel moves .I'd changed the bearings about 7 months ago .I have brought some new ones just in case .anyone know what it is ?

Walk forwards? Are bikes not better going forwards?

Well, it sounds as if you've got the rear wheel alignment wrong - but if it was that far out then it would handle like a pig with a broken leg and only go around corners one way....

If it's that bad, and you can't suss it out yourself, then you should definitely be asking for professional help with it!

What sort of bike is it?

well I've tightened the chain up and I've tried to get the alignment as close as possible with a tape measure .supposedly the guides aren't correct on these bikes .its a Honda varadero 125

Surely the wheel would move before the cog, unless you have a reverse gear. I aint no expert though. Just a thought, have you tried ant motorcycle forums.

Perhaps I am being too radical? Take it to a garage? I understand them two wheel thingies can be a bit of a fucker if they fall over.

OK!! Your explanation isn't 100%

HOWEVER if I get the gist of what you're asking it sounds like the cush rubbers are worn.

They sit in the wheel behind the sprocket carrier and are what cushions the drivetrain overtime you twist the throttle.

Ah - you said that the cog (presume you meant sprocket!) moves before the wheel!

If it's the wheel that moves first, it's the cush drive rubbers - though they usually last quite a long time...

If so, nothing too serious, but should be changed before too long.!

As for anybody complaining - us bikers tend to stick together and help out when it's needed - so there!

I want a bike, if I can ever pass a test without speeding, but was hoping they'd be simple to operate. Am I expecting too much if I am not the least bit mechanically minded and know no one who is?

Sounds like your offside sprocket is catching the inner whojamma-flange and it'll be chaffing onto the dongle pulley.

If it gets too worn the upper plummet-spring might need tightening.

Make sure it's aligned with the wind-jammer on the nearside of the cotter-pin-hinge on the double purchase levelling stud or it'll implode the diminishing blade along with the octangluar spliff-hardener.

Ok,before you changed the bearings and readjusted the chain did you have this noise,if not you have possibly over tightened the chain,you have to tension the chain with the weight of the person sitting on the bike,because the angle of the arc of the swing arm in contrast to the front and rear sprocket will change,and on a varedero,like a trials bike will have a greater suspension travel,so I would first get someone to sit on the bike and readjust the chain,also move the bike forward before doing this to find the tightest spot on the chain and adjust using this as the check point,hope this helps.

Has your bike crush gear? If it does check that they are not worn as that would give symptoms you describe.

The crush gear are the rubber inserts that fit in the rear wheel and the fins that fit into them should be a tight fit, if not change them.
