"He's turned all violent.
First he's going to hit people slating "his mother" and now he's advocating hitting children.
"
I think u misunderstood the hitting the mother.
Ppl are protective of family. Don't provoke because not all men are controlled. It's kinda ironic really. Athieests mocks believers in being so rigid in having no sex etc but when u think of it, when insults ensue, it is a good thing to have....to turn the other cheek....if u get caught justice may not be with u in court. |

"Pope advocating hitting children lol make a change, his lot are usually abusing them."
I'm not catholic but I want to support the pope here.
Are humans perfect, do ppl allow addictions of alcohol and drugs to grab hold of their children because adults have no alternative watt to satisfy them....

I didn't misunderstand the mother thing - I put it in "" for that reason. That was an ill-timed comment that could have been read as condoning jihadi actions.

"Pope advocating hitting children lol make a change, his lot are usually abusing them."
I remember when this thing started with children crossing the street.
A child has no understanding of death, no unserstanding of pain. A parent s last resort may be a slap on the bum. I was raised like that. I follow instructions. I've seen this generation...it ain't to pretty. We fear control for some reason but life is one cliff face |

Who exactly are "his lot"???"
I took it to mean the priests and nuns who have, historically, abused children.

Next he will be advocating, in the same way that ISIS has that it is ok for 9 year olds to get married.
Totally out of touch, there is never any need to strike child, ever. |

I was being ecumenical in my description of priests (read vicars too) and nuns.

It's a shame what he thinks/says isn't treated as the irrelevancy it should be due to the masses (no pun intended) that follow him.
Everyone can believe what they wish but if that belief involves inflicting physical or emotional pain on another then surely it is unacceptable.
Personally what ever he says will not affect anything I do.
Religion is one of the things used by those that promote it to argue that we are superior to the other animals on the planet. We would be exactly the same as them if we had to spend everyday hunting for food, trying to procreate (which we might do on this site!) and protecting our territory in the basic way that they do. It's just that evolution has meant we do these things in a different way, and have a more advanced method of communication.
Most religions were started by chancers using unexplained (then) events to obtain control and power over others for their own ends.
Only MHO obviously.

Hitting someone is wrong u say. If another guy stole your wife would u not get a little animated?u would think adults know better. If adults don't know and u hit them to make them learn should children if in a life threatening situation do the same?

Nothing wrong with slapping a child. Everything is wrong with beating your child. It's about balance.
It was done to me as a child. In a controlled non aggressive and non excessive way. Yea it hurt a bit at the time but it served as a reminder that I'd been out of line.
I wasn't beaten or abused. Both which are unacceptable. I had |

In fact with just a little bit of research you will find that catholic priests are no more likely to be child molesters than any ordinary male.
The abomination is the way the Catholic Church has continued to cover it up putting more children at risk.
Hopefully this pope will address this. |

There are plenty of ways to discipline a child without having to hit them. |

I agree with you, its not abuse to spank a child that's why we have so many badly behaved kids these days because of all these liberal leftie do gooders. |

Yes it is, but in my "perfect world" another guy wouldn't steal my wife. You wouldn't be hitting him to teach him not to steal wives as he would know that it is wrong, you are hitting him out of anger and to prove to your wife that you would fight for her and that you are "more of a man" than he is.
From a idealistic point of view violence is never acceptable. |

I know lots of children and young people who have never been hit and still manage to be well-behaved. So much so that older people have commented on how well they behave in restaurants and other public places.
I have found my stern face has worked with young people others have thought of as uncontrollable. They know they have crossed a line with me and then we can discuss it. |

When I was a child everyone got smacked, no one questioned it.
When my son was growing up he had the odd smack but very rarely, there are other ways to punish children that work better. But I don't think a quick tap on the hand or back of the legs did any of us any harm. |

Yes and I agree with you. However I still disagree with people thay say it's totally unacceptable.
