As a person who used to support the sex offenders register I really do think it is being abused by those in power, take a look at this story.... http://www.thewestmorlandgazette.co.uk/news/8371591.Woman_admits__outraging_public_decency__while_driving/?ref=mr
So the poor lady is going on the register for doing it in her car. Forget that she was driving for a moment, its the fact that she is being put on the register. Anyone dogging, masturbating etc and you are seen doing it risks being placed on the register with real offenders.
Once you are on there it is synonymous with peadophiles and rapists. And you never get off of it. Future employers will not consider you, the list goes on. |

I think the sex register can be misused but in principle I still believe in it.
As a usage case, the other day I found a large dog turd on the ground and with a quick couple of presses of my iPhone I found the nearest offender and posted it through his letter box.
How am I supposed to do this without the register? Always think of the big picture. |

I have absolutely no sympathy at all for this woman - there is a time and a place for everything and driving on the motorway isn't the place for that! The stupid bint could have caused a massive pile up and killed innocent people. We've all had bad news and I'm sorry, I think that was just an excuse to look for sympathy. I'd have rung the police as well if I'd have seen the idiot! Z |

Yes, totally stupid, wrong, inconsiderate, idiotic, etc etc - should be banned from driving to be so irresponsible. Z |

Putting her on the sex offenders register may seem a little harsh, but everything else that happened to her: too right!
Her mentally ill daughter pregnant, her son being deployed, her sick father...so she endangers herself and other road users by getting her jollies whilst whizzing down the motorway?!!
There was a poster a few months back who wrote saying she did something similar and got annoyed when people didn't find what she did amusing. Naturally there were those that thought what she did was fine and we were overacting.
Looks like the courts took a pretty dim view here too!! |

How long you stay on the SOR depends on the length of the sentence you receive for your crime.
I don't believe employers have access to the Register but others, such as housing authorities, do.
Should she be on the Register? She's admitted a public indecency offence. That sounds like good enough reason. You can end up on the register for mooning out of a football supporters bus (or any bus for that matter). |

there's a guy on the register for pinching a girls butt in a nightclub (it seems they knew each other and were in the same social circle, not a random nipper, not that it would have been more acceptable)...she actually went to the police for that. i know it pisses us all of sometimes (strangely not if it's someone drop dead gorgeous, we're never offended by that apparently!)..i still think it was extreme.

"Hmmmm I could be put on the sexual offenders register for pissing through a sexual offenders letterbox.
Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes."
Only if you get your willy out in public. Pee into a bottle and empty the bottle through the letterbox and you're OK. |

Employers do have access to the register simply by asking for a police background check. as long as they pay the police for the check it will show up anything and everything.
But as i said in my first post, ignore that she was driving. Is masturbating serious enough to be placed on the register, especially if you are sat in a car where you think you can't be seen? |

Can't help thinking there needs to be a Sex offenders register for Sex offenders and public indecency should be a totally separate matter.
Surely the idea of the Register is to make it easier to track people who could be a danger to others, not to shame d*unks into better behaviour??

Watched one of them cop shows on tv once where they run around in city centres with cameras, sure it was filmed in Newcastle at pub closing time, and a young lad, say maybe 21 and a bit on the tipsy side dropped his trousers and proceeded to cross at a pelican crossing in full few of the police and cameras, he was wearing boxer shorts and they stayed up, it was only his trousers he had pulled down, so was quite shocked to hear afterwards he was charged with public indecency and put on the register for 6 months.
What’s ever worse is if a maid walks into your hotel room while your hard at it or having a little play with yourself and gets offended by it you’ll end up on said register |

"I wouldn't want there to be two levels of sex offender. The threat of being placed on the SOR is a powerful deterrent."
I would.
I want to know if the new neighbour next door is going to try and hurdle his garden furniture naked when he's a bit pissed.
Or try and fuck my kid.

I think the shortest you can be on the Register is 12 months and that equates to being cautioned for a sexual offence while you're under 18 but there might be differences between Scotland and E&W. |

Sorry but that bit of your post just isn't true.
By booking your hotel room you are entering into a contract that will afford you a degree of privacy, if any person should let themselves into your room uninvited they will be breaking that contract, you would not end up on the sexual offenders register unless you enticed them in by deception. |

It's the deception bit that counts. A guy in a hostel in Ayr didn't reply when the cleaner knocked on his door before entering. She assumed there was nobody in the room It transpires he was having sex with a bicycle (don't ask, I don't know how).
He got 3 years probation and 3 years on the SOR. |

You need to look more closely at the Two laws involved here, the first is Outraging Public Decency which specifically involves exposing one's gentitals or performing a sexual act in "public", a hotel room by way of contract is not a public place.
The second law is Indecent Exposure, this is the reading of that particular law; The exposure must be intentional and the culprit must intend that some one will see “and be caused alarm or distress”.
That is exactly why having a member of staff entering your hotel room uninvited would mean there is little chance of conviction.
Otherwise you would have hotel staff bursting into rooms at all times of the night and claiming compensation for distress.....

The test should be whether the hotel worked believed the bedroom to be a public place where s/he could carry on their employment without being 'alarmed or dstressed'.
By knocking on the door s/he'd taken resonable precautions to ensure that. As I recall hotel cleaners tend not only to knock but, having opened the door, they shout out asking if the room is empty. S/he has a reasonable expectation after that that the room is empty. |

The crime of Sexual Breach of the Peace is thank god unique to Scotland and New Zealand, but then again you do have lots of livestock up that way, the law probably originated from instances of 'relations' between man and beast.

"Stewart had denied the offence, claiming it was caused by a misunderstanding after he had too much to drink."
Donald Findlay (well known defence council in scotland) would have got him off on that charge.
"i have here, your honour, these ten men from my clients erstwhile Golf Club who will happily confirm that the accused ex-wife is, in fact, a fucking bike..."

Why was I even surprised as I watched a programme some time back about people falling "in love" with inanimate objects.
A woman was in love with the Eifel Tower, a man had sex with some blokes car in the car park...strange, strange folk! |

Furious Jean, from Gtr Manchester, is citing the depraved incident in divorce papers along with other examples of His unreasonable behaviour, including:
BEGGING her to romp with other women for home-made blue movies.
BLOWING their benefit money on saucy Ann Summers gear ... for himself.
STOPPING her watching Coronation Street by smashing up their TV.
They had been married only six months and had moved to a flat in Glasgow when Jean found kinky Curtis, 42, with the chicken.
The thrice-wed mum of five said: “I went into the lounge and he was lying on the couch. He was wearing my silk blouse, the stockings and was there with the chicken out the freezer.”
Oh my Giddy Aunt!!!!
