You can pay in installments.
The Leeds Festival, (I guess Reading will be the same).....
If you pay your first instalment on or before January 31(£50.00 + £8.00 booking fee), your subsequent payment dates will be March 1st (£50.00), April 1st(£50.00), & May 1st (£55.00 + £6.50 postage)
All I have to say is.... "HOW MUCH!!!!!!!!!" |

We find our staff always have a positive experience, we try an accommodate everyone's hours as fairly as possible and volunteering means you already have a group of folk you get to meet and befriend and work with....you get a bit of an insight as to how stuff is run at these things too

Camping . Not been to it before . Is it quite stringent on what you can take in? Or is it relaxed |

We've booked hellfest in France, over £100 cheaper and only hidden cost was a 0.50 booking fee. |

I love festivals buying the ticket is only half the fee though the price of food and drinks once your in is shocking, last one I went to they were charging £2.50 for 500ml bottles of pop and water I was spending £10 to £15 a day just on drinks alone
I still go though cause I love the atmosphere |

I actually think it's a cracking idea if you are really into your music. Some headline acts are £50-£100 for a stand alone gig so to see many of your favourite bands over a long weekend represents good value to me and we have to remember that is inclusive of camping too which many do for 3-5 nights dependent on the festival. |

There's a search on entry...no drugs, no pressurised gas cylinders, no glass, or weapons of any type....so if you want to take drink, stick it in a plastic bottle before you go, anything like knives (for your cooking) try and take decentish plastic type ones, or a rubber mallet for tent pegs as opposed to metal hammers (common sense prevails) disposable BBQ is ok to take (we put cooking points into the campsites for them or just use well away from your tent) and no drugs (bar prescription or over the counter type) though I can't remember them using sniffer dogs there tbh, just manual search....
Normally if you get there when its busy they don't search everyone, they go on one in three approx to kill the cues faster...if it's dead quiet, they search more.....
It's a.p security who took over the contract as of last year and they're normally pretty good at using their own common sense and judgement and they are briefed that it's not a hard search gig as it's a decent crowd there....you'll be ok, common sense is your friend |

Oh, and there is talk of banning flags in the campsite as there are overhead power cables.....electrocution hazard...so don't take any big fishing pole type flag things that you see at gigs...dunno if that ban will go ahead or not but to be safe..... |

Let's hold on a minute for all those going "£200!!!"
At Glastonbury, gates open 8am Wed morning, and close 6pm Monday. That is 5plus straight days on site with friends having a good time. I think it works out this year at around £1.73 per hour which I think is a bargain. Also just booked tickets for Bearded Theory fest in May. That's even cheaper. Works out at almost 91p an hour.
Glasto and other festivals ARE my holiday. I don't go anywhere else. And to spend it with my friends listening to great music makes it even more special. |

Im going to Bearded Theory for 1st time this year as I luv the line up..also its one festival that allows you to carry your own alcohol an not pay £5 for a pint of watered down pish. I took 2 hip flasks strapped to me groin into Leeds last year..saved equivalent of 100 squid on drinks in main area |

Sounds an looks good to me. What ive found at Leeds Fest..is the mood changes on the Sunday as the 'yoof' seem to go overboard on their drugs an alcohol an set fire to alot of stuff. So hoping for a more chilled experience |

Hate generalising but going to do it anyway: Leeds/Reading and V are for the Radio 1 crowd and the kids. Glasto etc are more relaxed and chilled. Yes, people get mullered but the vibe is never threatening. Never felt afraid at Glasto. |

Some great information here re festivals..
Volunteering is always a good way to get free entry and have a great time..
Have to be cheeky and say its far better being paid to go tho...lol
Some promisingly good concerts I reckon this year...and hype within the industry is full on now |

Agree with the volunteering comments. I've been volunteering at festivals for 20 plus years, the only way to go!! And as others have said you end up making lifelong friends with other volunteers. It was a volunteering friend who introduced me to fab !!

latitude, best festival for me. Such an eclectic mix of music, comedy, arts, literature and much more. What's even better is for those with kids under 12 which I have and you want them to experience a festival they cost just £5 for a whole weekend, Thursday to Monday.
If anyone gets the chance to go totally recommend it. |

We went last year and had an absolute blast ! Weather was amazing and awesome line up, this years line is incredible already and they still havent announced the sat headliner yet lol
It's a great gig....I've been.there about 9 years or so, I manage the campsite stewards
If you fancy a natter and a pint when your there, feel free to say hi
Sounds like a plan, it also falls on my birthday ( jamie ) so usually gets messy lol, we managed to get respect camping this year as well which we are well chuffed about
Ahhh much less of a drag from the entrance and a bit less crowded....cool when you get there, you'll be on the list with the staff at the enterance to respect camping, those are our guys too
Any issue, ask for christos....
I'm staying off site again but I normlly have a bunkerbin to stay in on site too so yeah, it'd be cool to meet a couple of fellow fabbers to shoot the shit with over a beer or whatnot
Funnily, one of me veri's is from a social there the other year too....hmm...
Cool nice one thanks for advice Will give you a shout closer to the time and hook up for a beer or 10 Cheers pal "
No bother I've just stuck you on my hotlist btw if that's cool, makes you findable
And sweet, I look forward to a cold one with you! |

"We are going to v fest , reading festival , fake festival , Glaston budget and probably mud fest this year . Definately worth the money .
I'm working glastonbudget!
Great little gig
Did a stag do here a few years back. One of the best and d*unkest weekends I've had in a long time. With an even longer drive back to South Wales lol. "
Yeah? It's a relatively small gig but seems to have a really decent crowd, never really see any trouble there and folk are normally in pretty decent spirits!
Wouldn't fancy that drive after a bender there though!......I don't suffer booze as well as I once did |

"Agree with the volunteering comments. I've been volunteering at festivals for 20 plus years, the only way to go!! And as others have said you end up making lifelong friends with other volunteers. It was a volunteering friend who introduced me to fab !!
"
Been voulenteering a while! Long established company you voulenteer with I guess? Oxfam? Or do you just finda route to voulenteer depending on the gig if you don't mind my asking? |

Both, I've done some Oxfam gigs, a couple of the festival's I have my own way in from many years ago before companies got involved. And then Glastonbury and the big five are through Workers beer company. |

As has been said already, volunteering/working at a fest is probably the best way to do it, if you get lucky with your shifts you hardly have to miss anything you don't want to, and you make great friendships.
Having said that I do think that paying for a fest is still worth it especially ones like glasto and bestival (even though it can be a pain to get and from, same with IOW) there's just so much going on, it genuinely is like going on holiday and checking out all the sites as well as seeing 20+ bands! |

Just a thought re a post above.
Do these festivals have a license to sell alcoholic drinks?
If so, a section of the 2003 Licensing Act MAY apply.
And that is that a licensed premise MUST supply upon request water of drinkable quality or face a £20,000 fine and/or loss of licence.
Whether there's a specific exemption for a festival i don't know. Might be worth looking into rather than being ripped off. |

Standpipes all over Glastonbury (free), same at Bearded Theory. Bars also provide water on request. |

"I love festivals buying the ticket is only half the fee though the price of food and drinks once your in is shocking, last one I went to they were charging £2.50 for 500ml bottles of pop and water I was spending £10 to £15 a day just on drinks alone
I still go though cause I love the atmosphere
You going to any this year? "
I'm only doing download this year |

Yes. All festivals are covered by British standards for temporary water safety.
there are stringent rules on this and the festival will not open if the local environmental health officer isn't satisfied with the water safety plan.
in fact a fellow fab member could answer this better than me as he does this for a living.

Beatherder the festival I go too yearly allows you to take your own beer into the arena elimanating the expensive drinks cost. As long as there's no glass all is good |
