Does "Let's just be friends" really work?

Or is it the lady's way of saying,

"I don't fancy you, but knowing that that hurts you, makes me feel a bit guilty, so, to assuage my guilt, I'll offer this as a consolation prize. Obviously I hope you'll move on and not hang around where I work, cos if you do I'll just keep my head down and run for the bus"?

In my day, they just used to say "Get lost you bald, ugly creep"

ahhh, the good old days, when life was simpler...

So Ladies, does it?

I always end up in the "friends zone" so it doesn't bother me so much now. It used to annoy me if I really llike the guy

I can and have been 'friends' with men AFTER a relationship. If a man suggests/implies he only wants me for 'friendship', I would not get involved. It would be a 'friendship', but with the hope of a sexual relationship in my experience.

I've met a few guys who have asked if we can just be friends, in my experience it don't work, I think they just say it to make them feel better about hurting you, though I think its a bit vain to assume everyone you knock back will be that hurt you have to sugar coat a not for me

I think if one side does not feel the same as the other just being friends don't work, I'm not saying people of the opposite sex can't just have a platonic relationship but it has what your both happy with to make it work

Yeah, I've stayed friends with a number if exes....

On the other hand some didn't quite work out as friendships...

The same as anything, depends on the situation and the people in it, sometimes it works, sometimes it ain't meant to be....

I am amicable with my ex for the sake of my daughter, but if it wasn't for her I wouldnt have anything at all to do with him, does that count

I'm friends with a couple of ex's and we regularly go out. I was out with two ex's Saturday night.

One of my best friends is a female, we talk a few times a week and go out regularly. If I like someone's company it doesn't matter what sex they are or if we once had a relationship. Obviously I've had some shitty relationships and wish to never see them again.

I'm like a cheeky, harmless 'Carry On'-style stalker. Like one you would get in the '70s, before it got such a bad name.

I'm more the short bald one from Benny Hill.

Without the semi-naked ladies chasing me around.

Never been said to me.

But saying that, my best mate is a lass who I have known nearly 20 years. I've no intention of shagging her because it would feel like incest.

But saying that, I might marry her if I make it to 100... just so we can be one of those news storys on the local news

I dont think it does work.

If I end the relationship its usually because I dont like her, if I did, I wouldnt end it.

I dont have friends I dont like.

Yes and no. Depends on the situation.

I think if you breifly dated, ahd sex etc then turning that into a friendship is fine. I think though if one or the other developed feelings then it never will, as one will always be pretending they are happy with the situation, when they are not.

I'm not sure... The only time I've used that, the guy was alright for a while but then went off on one when I got with someone else.

It depends on the person I guess and whether they can cope with the idea of seeing you move on or whether they're just hoping to stay close incase you change your mind.

Same! I still loved my ex when we separated and because we share a child I've had to be aware of his new relationship and moving in with her and holidays and stuff, taken me 5 years to finally be in a place where I'm not bothered anymore.

The Friend Zone is a dark, terrible, lonely place for a bro to be. In fact any bro ending up in the friend zone and happy to stay there should lose their bro status.
