It has just been decided & passed; Scotland says NO to Fracking, there will be NO Fracking in Scotland, under homes or any place on land
good result
Full control over fracking is due to be devolved to Scotland after May's general election.
In the meantime, consent for unconventional oil and gas developments will be rejected on planning grounds.
The announcement by Scottish Energy Minister Fergus Ewing came a day after the boss of the Grangemouth chemical plant said the UK must embrace shale gas.

I saw a debate on the news about it yesterday.
I'd be the same, I wouldnt want it in my back yard.
What people shouldnt do is oppose wind farms instead, if its a choice of one of the other, put up with huge windmills, I know its not that easy but if everyone says 'No to windfarms' whats the alternative? |

No business = no jobs. Regrettable as it might be, we need rich, wealth creators and business people to create jobs for people.
Dont want fracking, dont want HS2, dont want any more runways (let alone airports), dont want nuclear power, dont want people driving in their cars too much.

Pure common sense means that you should never, say never. Nobody knows what the future holds. Especially so in Scotland where, aside from a bit of sheep farming there are only two significant income generators - alcohol and oil. |

Well for the cynical like myself.
Yeahhhh it's a victory but in reality it's one I believe there giving us for the moment. Nobody and I mean nobody wants to do fracking for 50 dollar barrels!.
But it's one I'll gladly take, as I and thousands more think it's the ultimate proof of fucking ourselves over for a quick buck |

Why do you always think only wealthy people create jobs.
Nobody wants hs2, it's the canals of the 21st century and will be obsolete by the time they build it.
Nobody wants nuclear power especially people who live within 30 miles of them and suffer from a higher proportion of cancer, even when they work perfect, let alone when they go wrong.
Nobody wants fracking, it's noisy highly polluting, environmentally costly, high production cost, consumes millions of gallons of water, potential earth tremors and most of all a high chance of poisoning the very thing we all need for life... Water and not just temporarily but for a thousand years, is it worth taking a chance on... Really!.
And no I don't want more runways or more airports or people driving more than what's necessary.
It might not mean much to you but for children born today, it will. |

why do you think Saudi Arabia are cutting the price in oil, its to get rid of all the pathetic high cost energy making schemes such as Wind Turbines that You, me and every one on this forum are paying for, every solar panel you see erected is being subsidised by us all, its coming out of all our pockets, and not for much longer.
Saudi Arabia can keep the price low for 8 years, hopefully that will be long enough to rid all wind turbines, solar shite and fracking,

That's a good point and one that every poll done shows that everyone who opposed wind farms in a locality changed their opinion when fracking tried to get started in the same area.
Personally I think the future of wind farms is not the big ones but the new small vertical mounted ones, imagine if you replaced every street light post with them, there roughly the same size, within a generation nobody would know any different.
Geothermal is massively untapped and has the potential for free unlimited power for 50,000 years minimum.http://helios.physics.uoguelph.ca/summer/scor/articles/scor49.html.
Nobody wants to outlay the money and it's only been few and far between with problems to be solved but it's been done in northern France, it worked they generated electric, if you listen to the people who work in that field it is all do able, it just needs the cash and the will.

That's only half true.
Solar generates electric cheaper per kw than gas or coal or oil.
What there subsidising is the start up cost of making and installing the panels.
That principle works exactly the same regardless of fuel used..
Ie the new nuclear station were building( it's built by the French and financed by the Chinese) is being subsidised in exactly the same way with a guaranteed fixed price of electric... Paid for by the consumers. |

Me too. Living on west coast of Scotland I'm stunned tidal power hasn't had more investigation. Yes there are initial start up costs but that's true of anything and I'm sure was true when the UK first became industrialised. There's also solar roads
