After 24 hours off the diet (but not binging) it's back onto the straight and narrow for me before I see my surgeon on Thursday.

Fingers crossed I stay under the threshold.

Swimming for an hour most days this week.

Btw, can anyone recommend exercises to reduce chunky calves? Is that even possible?

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

As I said on my previous post, I've dropped another 3lbs so hit my target for January already. Off to have lunch with my Mum now but its a 45 min walk to get there so hopefully will be pre-emptively burning off the calories.

Is it fat chunky or muscle chunky?

Fat will eventually go if you lose enough fat.

Muscle you're pretty much stuck with, especially in your legs as you can't stop using it! Regular stretching exercises will lengthen the muscle though and may reduce the bulky look a bit.

You are probably stuck with them then, my calves are never slim. Although there are exercises you can do to help the muscles grow In your calves if you wanted definition x

I have 16" calves.

My sports therapist was envious when I saw her this week.

They're one of my better bits but they do make buying long boots difficult.

Just about to do an hour and a half on the turbo trainer...it might kill me!

10.5lbs off in 4 weeks though!

Only 13.5lbs to go.

Meanwhile, Mrs JFL eats what she likes and never moves more than 2lbs either side of 9st 5lbs!

Calves were always the one thing I wanted to shrink. Was told that basically, they are the worst area of the body to loose size from.

It's true. If anything they've got bigger, lost the fat from them, but they are just muscle now. Still can't find knee boots!

On the loss side. I don't recommend Prague for anyone on a low carb, high protein diet!

I have a half marathon in 8 weeks, so am back on the diet and exercise wagon with a vengeance today. My PT killed me in the gym today, run tomorrow - 10k off road. PT again Friday morning. Park run Saturday morning. 10k road run Sunday.

No more rest days!!

Today's run was a bit epic, lost my phone, retraced a few miles and found it! But then managed to get slightly lost and did a few miles on deserted trails in total darkmess, no head torch and no one round. Going through woods was a bit scary! Tried to enjoy the isolation rather than focus on the inherent danger!

Been a good weeks running, 33 for the last 7 days. Did a 10km on saturday with a friend that is faster than me and she gave me a kicking. Itls all going in the right direction

Be careful you're not losing muscle too if you're exercising as well as dieting.

Lost a total of 5 inches this week. Heading to gym now to weigh in.

No mainly asda low calorie soup, comes in a plastic pot and goes I'm the microwave for a few mins and I just put it in a flask and go off to work, stops me living in drive thrus!

Umm that's what I meant. You're exercising and if your living on soup and fruit that sounds like a pretty low protein diet.

Legs feel wankered today.

We tried some different leg exercises last night.

Side lunges, Romanian deadlift.

Added some regular lunges to add some extra umphh

As well as squats, leg presses, 30 mins on treadmill, 2000m on concept 2, triceps and abs

Those classes are hard work!!

I've just done piloxing followed by pump which was mainly shoulder work today (at my request cuz I've got a sore knee) I'm a bit worried I won't be able to lift my cuppa tea in the morning!! Ouch!!

Currently shopping online for a kettlebell and a DVD.

Hit a 160kg deadlift at 65kg body weight. That's a 2.5 body weight ratio. Which means I'm now lifting at almost Olympic level, maybe even competition level.

Right firstly how the hell do you have time to eat a meal every two hours?

Secondly if you don't eat meat what can you eat as an alternative on a high profile diet that's also low in calories? Is meat alternatives such as quorn protine?

At the risk of sounding churlish and that's not the intent , I think he said he works 12 hours a week so has plenty time for the gym. I work around 70 a week hence my ERM......Adonis like body

Quorn is protein.

It's not so easy upping your protein intake being a veggie.

are you a vegan, if not there's eggs, cheese, cottage cheese & if you're vegan quinoa!

Well I only lost 1/2lb this week but at least it's a loss and it's my own fault for keep eating sweets!! Ha!

Back on track this week although can't get to the gym today as my lad is home sick from school. Hoping to do a YouTube step workout later if he has a kip. Was going to start the couch to 5k today but it can wait till tomorrow x

There's some very effective DVDs that are really quick, t25 or the 30 day shred are both under half an hour if you could squeeze that in before bed. It is knackering after a long day though especially with kids.

Thanks. It falls of with this 'diet'. Lost 4 stone in 3 months last time. Kept it off but damn silly work hours made it impossible to carry on with it for a while.

Unfortunately I've ruptured my ACL so the gym is out yhe question.

I used to do those but i can't do anything high impact anymore as i have a dodgy knee

....also there is no way i feel like doing that after working all day and part of the evening. ...I'm currently doing to 30 day ab and squat challenge. That is about my limit for now.

You eating enough?? When I stopped losing after a few weeks I started eating more and the weight started coming off again? Wasn't eating enough to fuel the exercise and my body wasn't happy x

Hi, yeah still tracking my food and my intake's fine.

I've got some Excel spreadsheets from ten years ago which was the last time I lost a lot of weight and the graph is virtually identical, so I'll just see how it goes next week. Then I'll blame it on the calibration of their scales

PT this morning. Weight day. 3 main lifts, dead lift, squats and bench. It's going to hit me hard, just in time to get up at 5am tomorrow to go to work. Then go straight to the gym for a PT cardio session.

Taken my lad to the cinema and nandos today, no popcorn, fizzy drink or sweets. And in nandos I had chicken, a side of macho peas and no chips or bread!! I'm well impressed with myself! Lol.

Was ill over Xmas/New Yr and most of January with a chest infection, so no training for me.

Better now, so just done 600 calories in 32 minutes on the turbotrainer in the garage. That's on top of cycling to and from work & a fairly physical job. Soon be back up to speed, hope so as ive a few Audax's (long distance cycle events) lined up this year.

I have a GPS computer that is linked to my HR strap & the cadence meter on the bike so it keeps track of cadence, heart rate/calories etc. I start in a low gear with a high cadence to warm up then move up the gears every half mile til I hit the top gear, then I shift the resistance up a notch & go hard for another half mile before dropping to an easier gear every half mile. Only use the top 5 gears though. Can usually do 1000 calories in around 53 minutes - it hurts though!

My personal aim for this year is Morecambe to Bridlington in a day - some 180 miles.

My mate is aiming for the Paris-Brest-Paris this summer so he needs several 200/400/600k rides to qualify, I'll be along as moral support!

Its a machine you can fit your bike to, it has a rotating surface that the rear wheel sits on & is usually a magnetic resistance that you can adjust.

Useful for short, intense training sessions.

Morecambe-Bridlington will be a self-organised effort. We've done a couple of C2C's before but this promises to be a biggie - depends on the total elevation.

PBP is Bonkers, I'd like to ride the route but id want more than 90hrs.

I'm working from a plan I found on the Polar website when I bought my HR monitor.

The HR monitor handles calories and heart rate and my bike computer handles speed, cadence and distance, so I've got all the angles covered to do the same plan as you...though I may work easier gears than you

I now need to find out how turbo trainer time/miles transfer to the road.

I'm not going out on the road until the weather's OK though as I haven't ridden a bike in anger in over thirty years.

You could try trainerroad or sufferfest if you want a training programme, they are web-based programmes that link up to your turbo to simulate various conditions.

Think you need a certain type of turbo though.

I just get the music on & crack on, mind you the garage is sub zero so its an incentive to work hard!

Out on the road is much better.

Well I managed the 5k today but it took 12 minutes longer than I used to do it In, though I'm using couch to 5k. Went straight to week 3 and felt ok so gonna jump to week 4 next time and see how that goes. Shocking how quickly your stamina goes to shit when last year I was up to 8k in under an hour without stopping and now I can barely run 3 minutes at a time! Lol x

Cycling is very good for toning the legs and buttocks - if you don't want to ride outside a turbotrainer or exercise bike may be an option if you have space.

I have the same trouble.......years of dance so you get over developed muscles that wont go no matter what size you are,proper awkward to get long boots and even jeans/trousers to fit.x

I am starting my cutting phase this week to get an even more ripped look for the summer as I strip of at the beach in spain for holiday, will increase chicken intake to 1kg aday and keep carbs to 200g but might do some days on 50g carbs. Its all about carb cycling

I've had an up and down week this week. Been feeling pretty rough the last couple of days so not been to the gym and with half term coming up it'll be a squeeze to get there this coming week.

However I've managed to commandeer my mother to watch my boy for a couple of hours tomorrow so I can get a 5k plus shoulder/bi/tri workout and hopefully I'll get a couple of visits in midweek prob weds/thurs while my lad sees his dad.

Not expecting huge weight losses any more now I'm nearing the end but I'm aiming for another half stone between now and end of march. Anything more than that will be a bonus

I reckon Portland must be one the toughest half marathons in the South. It was grim. I was off work ill a couple of days last week and cider and curry doesn't make for great pre-race fuel. Got round, lungs more of an issue than legs, the build up to Brighton is going in the right direction

Haha... I remember my first conditioning class back in September. Lots of squats, lunges, planking and such like. First bit of exercise i had done in a year and my first proper exercise class ever. I couldn't get down the stairs after and for 4 days I was in total agony. I nearly cried trying to sit down for a pee!! Thank god that's not ever been as bad since...

I went to the cinema on Tuesday with my little one and ate my body weight in jelly beans, toffee popcorn and Macdonalds! Spent the whole of yesterday feeling terrible...all that sugar.. Bleurgh!!!!

Although it did me a favour as I've had a sweet tooth I've been fighting since Xmas but that's gone now!!

I'm systematically chucking/donating stuff as it gets too big so I'm constantly reorganising wardrobes lol.

I love chicken and chorizo jambalaya but the rice makes it just too high in carbs. So I tried making it with quinoa instead.

It isn't as nice, but it works. Just need to remember more water!

Have you tried cauliflower rice? I keep seeing people making it but it seems weird to me!!

I seem to be on a roll at the moment, traing three times a week and as strong as an ox, God knows why, not doing anything different, next to sex, training is my favourite thing to do, just completely de-stresses me.

Portsmouth Coastal Half tomorrow. Second half in 2 weeks. This one will be noticeably flatter than last week. I may have also accidentally entered a second half for March so by the end of March that will have been 4 halves in 7 weeks

You'll get used to them quite quickly. I went from 2 through 3,4 and 5 then jumped to 7.5 for some exercises. Partly why I'm loathe to buy dumbells for home use coz they would need updating every few weeks.

Dont buy the dumb bells as fixed weights, get the ones i have where you have the basic bar then add or take weights off as you need

Yes i find them good, some days feel more energy so add a little more then other days if a little tired take a little off. Im starting my new protein too today

Yay hello people!!

I decided at the beginning of the month that this was the reconstruction year, currently doing weight watchers as there was a 3 month Groupon lost 6lb last week, as for exercise, I'm getting around to it as am on my feet A lot with work

I found some quark yoghurts at tesco that are 20g protein each. Not tried one yet though. I'm still trying to lose weight so don't really want the added cals of protein shakes/bars they are quite high when I could be eating food!

Protein will help you build muscle and the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn to maintain it. I will look into those yoghurts

That's pretty good for a week! I'm the same with exercise, have lost 19lbs so far since January but have barely gone to the gym at all, need to step that up

Lol! I know the feeling but my job is near enough a gym session!

Am made up with my first weeks loss just hope I can keep it up...... Work is a huge temptation as I work in a 4* hotel so there's sweet stuff galore winking at me

2lb off for me too

Officially a stone lighter than I was at Xmas. I did Abs Blast class tonight but it was crap because she just did planks, which kill my shoulders without any benefit to my core. Boo. 30 mins on elliptical too though.

I'll be trying my new weights tomorrow.
