Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

Not sure how reachable they are in 4 hours, but aren't some of the South-Eastern European countries both cheap and warm in winter?

in the night garden

I can only think of Canaries, if you stretch it to 5 hours you have access to a lot more warmer places, like north Africa and Dubai

Torquay

Are you talking renting or buying?

The Canaries are the best winter destination in my opinion, but getting very expensive.....

The Greek islands are 4 hours away, as is Tenerife in the Canaries. The Balaerics offer almost guaranteed winter sun and Ibiza town is a lovely place for either your parents to relax or for you if you want some extra-marital activities.

Edinburgh

The Canaries would seem to be a no-brainer.

Pleasant climate all year round, very accessible, resonably priced place to spend time.

I agree with "Soapy", Gran Canaria. There are some really good deals to be had on property just now, especially if your located just out of the main tourist areas.

Ibiza is all but closed down after the end of October, most of the bar and restaurant staff go back to the mainland.

The population of ibiza goes down by over 80% between October and March.
