I swear in 'ye olde days' the council used to clear and grit pavements.

Seems the safest place to walk, is the middle of the road.

Same here health and safety probably to blame, if someone was to fall on a pavement they cleaned they could be sued. Or maybe they are just to idle to clean them

That doesn't make sense. Someone could fall over crossing a road they cleaned just as easily.

They should clean and grit the pavements like the roads,

But if everyone who was able to cleaned outside their own house shop business we wouldn't have to rely on the council all the time

We help our elderly neighbors clear theirs and like above if everyone able was to do this would make life a whole lot easier.

And how long does it really take out of your life to help

They should ditch the grit altogether.. It's only good to -5 anyway... The Germans have a liquid solution they use on the autobahn, good to -40 and won't corrode your car.... But that would require new vehicles... And that equals cost.

Two years ago I slipped and broke my thumb in three places on an icy pavement....(ouch)

Id offer some of the ladies and gents that are housed at her majestys pleasure...

If You'd like 8 hours in the fresh air, have a bit of time off for good behaviour, heres your shovel, brush, grit start there finish here.

I got told I'm a heathen when I mentioned that a ways back. I'd have them working on the potholes too.

Somewhere in North Norfolk

Nah, the safest place to walk is inside. If it gets snowy and icy here, I'm hibernating and not going out.

This was my email to college this morning....

I won't be in today due to the weather. It's a bit too treacherous to walk to college.

I left my place, nearly slipped a couple of times, went "f this", went back home.

Just have a decent pair of boots. There's no such thing as bad conditions, just unsuitable attire.

Been wearing literally nothing but magnum hi tops for years and not so much as a slip in all that time no matter the ground conditions.
