Exercise with injury - help?

I've been doing the 30 day shred workout dvd. After a few days of it (doing it every other day) my knee felt awful afterwards. Couldn't walk really for a day!

I don't want to injure myself further. What should I do? I love high intensity workouts. I don't like swimming or cycling.

Husband has suggested I continue the DVD workout but really minimise it so just do a few of each exercise and build up.

Anyone else got any ideas?

I want to get more toned and don't have time for the gym, etc.

Sorry to hear of your knee...but from your pics you don't seem to need much toning IMHO.

You've got to listen to your body, maybe a rest day is what's needed. If you can't do a rest day then the only thing to do is to exercise in such a way to minimise impact upon the knee.

Which part of your knee? front, back ?

It was the front, right under the kneecap, like someone was digging their fingers in there. It didn't hurt, and felt fine initially but the uncomfortable around 30 mins after I'd finished the workout and the next day it felt quite swollen all day but not really painful, just very very fragile?

No clue what I did and I've never had knee problems before. But I am new to exercising this intensively.

Fabville !!!

You need to rest.high intensity/Impact aerobics can be damaging to the joints.especially with underlying problems (if you dont know about them).

Tendons/ligaments/joints could possibly get damaged.. Never push yourself if your in pain then its your bodies way of telling you to stop or sloa down.

No pain no gain = rubbish

Need time to heal, in the mean time. try less knee impact exercises.

worst thing to do is injure yourself further.

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds)

pain discomfort swelling are all indicators its not right...it may be this specific exercise regime is too intense for your knee. Id rest and when it feels better...if your previous workouts didnt cause you problems id be trying them and avoiding this one.

Omg! Am having exactly the same problem have been doing 30 day shed and my knee is so painful I have had to stop! I had an accident years ago resulting in torn ligaments, but have never had any pain from it until now! I was really getting into the video, but am in so much pain. I have just ordered a fitness bike so when gillian is doing jumping jacks and butt kicks I can jump on my bike to do some low impact cardio.

It sounds like it may be your miniscus (I am NOT a doctor, nor profess that what I am saying is correct) But I have suffered over past few years from persistent knee trouble, and from what you are describing, I would suggest a quick visit to the doc's where they can do some quick simple tests to rule out ligaments or cartilage (miniscus) damage.

It sounds like you may have a small tear in the cartilage in joint, and the high impact is causing it to flap about, then when you straighten your leg it is pinching in the joint, causing the pain?

In meantime try doing squats to replace the jumping about, but best to get it seen to as cartilage very seldom repairs itself, due to low blood flow to the tissue.

The reason I "think" i know what it is, I've had 5 Op's to repair/remove torn cartilage in both knees!

Good luck.

Rest it or it will aggravate it, knees can be tricky.

Give it a rest until the pain it gone and its back to normal.

I had pains in knee from running recently, it took about a week or a bit more to get rid of it.

I've run (never long distances) on and off for years and not had a problem.

I'm glad someone else said the shred messed up their knee! I'm so gutted as I want the kind of body that that sort of exercise will get me!

I'm not even sure which specific exercises in the shred aggravate knees? So I don't know which bits to skip? I'm doing to carry on doing the press ups and abs work though.

Anyone recommend a short, effective workout DVD that is nice to knees?

(Oh and my knee was fine after one day of feeling rubbish but I'm not stupid enough to go injure it by doing exactly the same thing again. Just want to know what to do instead really..)
