Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Getting ready to face the potentially freezing weather in Northern Ireland next week I went digging around for my big jumpers.

I found one a friend made me nearly 35 years ago. It still fits, albeit not as a loose baggy jumper anymore.

What's your oldest item of clothing?

I've got a few things more than 25 years old. I'm not sure what the oldest is.

I've got a couple of mini skirts I had when I was at school, so at least 26 or 27 years old. I've got some boots from around that time too.

If so I still have a white cotton embrodered dress my Mum made for me to wear to her 2nd marriage I was 12. If I am honest I have somethings from every decade since then. My loft is groaning.

Some jeans that are 18 years old now, they cost me £50 so i'm never throwing them away.

My mum has undies that are easily 40 years old and getting close to 50 years, nothing wrong with them either, except the colours not so great from fading in the wash. Dunno why she hasn't replaced them but surely she should get a environmental award of something for not throwing them out by now.

I've got a pair of black leather gloves that cost me £6 from Beatties in Dudley way way back in 1975.

My old man said "You've paid how much for a pair of gloves?"

I was only earning about £12 a week then as a second year engineering apprentice

My sister has just told me that a particular jumper style our friend designed 25 years ago for a well known store is now selling on e-bay for over £100. I found one in my cupboard when I found the jumper my friend knitted.

I knew my inability to divest of clothes would have a redeeming feature at some point.

A Belstaff "Roadmaster" jacket bought from a bikers shop in Macclesfield for £109.99 15 years ago. That was before they started selling them for nearly £500 a pop. It's wearing a bit at the cuffs but all good.

Got a Cromby overcoat that was my dads. He bought it in the early sixties. I very rarely wear it, but it looks good with a slim fitting suit. I need to buy a lambretta as well.
