"Has anyone tried electric stimulation? If so, is the cost of the kit worth it?"
I have experimented with it in the past and it can be very pleasureable if you have the alone time to practice.
You want to be able to set aside a couple of hours undisturbed to get the best out of it and with families that can be so dificult 
Kits can cost a lot of money I must admit so if you are going to do it join some fourums and ask questions.
I did build my own for about a tenner once and used it along with a pc for the sound input that gets coverted into the e-stim thythms but to be honest if you are going to do it get the right jits and take you're time with it as so easy to go too far and make you jump a bit
