VV thread. Do you mind if you are bought gifts by you FWB or FB etc? I've never really been in a "relationship" where I've been bought gifts other than birthday and Christmas and that's been rare by men (I'm shit at picking men) . On the odd occasions I've had it done I end up with it all been thrown in my face. I tend now to treat myself rather than expect it from other people (not including family) |

My current lover is exceptionally generous. Its not something I am used to, but he enjoys it and its a nice change.
He is in a decent job, and tells me he enjoys sharing that with people he cares about, and knows with me being a single mum, that my financial priorities lie elsewhere.
He also says he enjoys knowing I am wearing the dresses he has bought me and things like that. I admit it is taking some getting used to, but its not awful - and its never something I expect of him either. |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I accepted my first gift from someone, loosely in the man/relationship category, in December 2013. It was odd as I've never really had that from anyone before. I got another Christmas present from him December 2014.
The ex gave me money for a birthday present in 2013 and then he bought my mascara as a Christmas present December 2014.
Four gifts from people I love who love me too. I think I can live with that.
I wouldn't be comfortable getting anything from anyone casual but if someone wants to give me the Pretty Woman treatment in order desensitise me to my unease about this then let me know. |

I think the difference is you don't expect it I think that are are a few in this world that does expect to be lavished in gifts. I've just had shit on the odd occasions a man had bought me gifts |

Me and the fwb are always broke atm as we're saving for hols but we tend to buy each other daft little things that we know the other will like eg a book, cd etc.
Those sort of things, where I know he's put thought and effort into tracking something down for me, means much more than him spending lots which probably would make me feel uncomfortable |

Giving and receiving gifts could be embarrassing or uncomfortable. I met someone at Christmas and had brought her a gift - it was just a little low-cost item of personal significance, but even that I wasn't sure about giving in case it was taken the wrong way. |

I dont mind it and its nice when a guy gets enjoyment from it!
I was married to a guy who abused my generosity greatly and never returned it so now its a new thing for me if a guy buys me something nice or flowers etc, no-one has ever thrown it in my face.
Though even now my generosity can be abused but I am still a nice person, dont think twice about cooking an FB dinner or getting them little gifts even if its just something silly! |

I have a long term friend who bought me my own F10 which I was very touched about and this Xmas bought me a Little Miss Naughty mug.
It's a secret joke but I took it into work and nobody has questioned me yet |

I'm the one who likes to give little gifts to people, but when I received a necklace at Christmas off my new FWB, I burst out crying at the bar in a club. I was so overwhelmed, I'm not used to people buying me gifts and I've only been seeing him since October. |

I like buying gifts for people but I usually feel uncomfortable when they're bought for me.
I guess I need to be sure there are no expectations attached. I don't like feeling I owe anyone anything. |

My last FWB bought me wine a lot of the time, and bought me dinner a couple of times. Always paid for the hotel etc. Then one morning he took me home, gave me a book, didn't hug me goodbye and then disappeared off the face of the planet. I sure know how to pick 'em! |

Oh, And in answer to the o.p yeah, I've bought bits and pieces for fab friends before, just small things, dinner here, a pair of heels or two there, that kind of thing.
I've had bits bought for me too, just odds and ends really...
I've no issue with it....just people being nice to each other really... |

Hmm, that reminds me I need to pop out for a really good bottle of Jamaican Rum for my friend.......
Small thoughtful gifts are really nice I think, I like buying little things for people after they crop up in conversation or something. It freaks me out to be offered lingerie, but someone's promised me an 'Oleg' - I'd love that, lol!

I like giving and receiving so would be comfortable with the idea from a FWB. Not so much so from someone I didn't know well.
and by gifts I'm referring to token / thoughtful ones not Tiffany's (well unless you insist ) |
