i know eczema is different but my daughter had bad flare ups when she was younger tried all sorts of creams from aveeno to e45 but the only thing that calmed her down was something called 'pure potions'.. it was a soothing balm.. worked miracles. Could be worth a shot on your skin |

"Yes ive got it but only on my elbows but its very itchy "
I've found massively cutting sugar out of my diet cuts out the itch a bit. And tons of moisturiser.
Mine is on my legs, badly, arms and now it's my torso in small patches. It's spread so much in a short time. I miss going out and wearing sexy/revealing clothing.
Haven't gone out with bare legs in around 3 years now at least! |

Did it disappear spontaneously or did you do something?"
I used to use a lot of cream (Dovobet) but then went to live on an island for a few years......just chilling out and relaxing for a bit made the world of difference |

I had a look but it seems really expensive, I go through tons as I'm covered in it. I've spent a fortune chasing miracle cures over the years.
Waiting to go on meds for it now. |

lol i had the same thoughts as you regarding the cost of it, but because its like a balm it kinda melts into the skin and you end up using very little. Good luck though and hope your flare ups settle down x |

I had it at when I was pregnant and split with my partner. Elbows and knees and even around my ankles, was horrid never had it before but they said stress can bring it on. After I had the baby I had lamp treatment in the hospital, was like a big sunbed and the nurses would put this coal tar stuff on me and it cleared up in a few months. Over the last 5 years since I've noticed whenever I'm particularly stressed it will come back on my elbows, when it happens I use the tar stuff and leave it on for an hour and then remove it with almond oil. I also take vitamin e capsules every day and I get this cream called double base from my gp and it's really moisturising it's like water when you put it on but it keeps your skin really hydrated.
Just keep asking your doctor to try you on different things, it's a horrible thing to have, I've had it through a summer and not been able to wear anything sleeveless, or going out and trying to find a going out outfit that covers all the bits is hard. |

You said that sugar makes it worse? You may want to try cutting carbs from your diet for a while and see what happens. Up the really good fats like ghee, lard, butter and olive oil and avoid vegetable oils, they are trans fats when heated and not good at all.
Avoid all processed stuff too. |

I have it on my bum which I'm quite paranoid about. Vincent used to let meets know purely for MY peace of mind, as I couldn't stand the idea of any potential meets reacting badly when they saw it.
It's not scaly, it's just red but it hasn't bothered anyone yet. I've found Palmers cocoa butter to be the best.
Mine too clears up when I get some sun.
Fucking England and it's shitty weather...

I was gonna say I'll post you the stuff I got cos I've got it in bulk unused incase of a flare up but you get free prescriptions in Haverfordwest west don't you? Ask them for the double base stuff and for coal tar I've got 2% strength and it does take the scales away and makes it smooth. |

Had mine since I was 27 and used to put creams on it but as they made no difference I stopped bothering after about 5 yrs. 2 massive patches on both knees have completely disappeared in the last 18 months though.
Downside to all this is that I have now developed psoriatic arthritis and have been off work for the past 5 months |

Mine started after my first round of IVF. Never went away except once when I had UVB light treatment. I was clear six months and then bam, it was back.
I've had it six years now.
The first time I was covered so badly and I was a mess. All over my body and even a ridiculous amount in the palms of my hands. Hurt my legs just standing up. Agony changing my babies nappies at that time!
This time is not quite this bad but rapidly getting there.
UVB and PUVA (light) treatments haven't worked.
I did a ridiculously strict diet for four months (no dairy, no grains except oats, no sugar, no processed, no alcohol, no red meat, no citrus, loads of green smoothies).
Four months! It was clearing very slowly but I was doing UV using a light box at home and I just got new outbreaks wherever the UVB light wasn't hitting me. The UVB at home was taking 2 hours, three times a week. Then cooking every meal from scratch and it was very stressful.
I finally quit as I'd had enough over Christmas. I lost a ton of weight and just felt rubbish the entire time.
It was soul destroying to know all that work didn't do much. But eating sugar again has made me flare worse - and I stopped UVB for a few weeks as I was exhausted. Back doing it now.
I've got to the point where my arms are pretty bad so I don't even want to do a social. I have a couple lined up but am thinking of cancelling. They know about the psoriasis.
I did try and upload a photo of the state of my legs a while back to let a guy know and Fab rejected the photo. I suspect they thought is done some form of kinky self mutilation or something?
Just arrrrrggggghhhhhh!
Thanks for listening guys.

That diet you posted was severely lacking in good nutrients.
Your body needs protein and fats to heal and maintain and unless you have a sensitivity to dairy, don't exclude it.
Have you been tested for D deficiency? Most of us are and need robust supplementation. I take 10,000 in a day and have done for years. |

Topsy yep that's what I decided in the end. I had tons of salmon and olive oil though. Just felt like not enough calories too.
Pink rabbit - tried it and it didn't work AND it was excruciating for some reason? Didn't work for me. Know it works for some.
Whoever suggested a cream that clears it up - wish it was that simple! |

Nivea sensitive moisturiser for men. Desensitises skin over time. White tube, navy circle I think.
Cleared eczema literally overnight. Maybe worth a try? Also reduces redness on psoriasis patches and sometimes heals. |

Ive suffered with this since i was a teenager on and off. Got it really badly at the moment on my forehead and ears. Used most of the prescription stuff, worked for a bit then stopped. Someone recommended pure glycerine and this worked for a long time for me. Sadly no more. |

My 17 yr old daughter was born with it and there is so much can be done either via tablets or injections. Stress is the main enemy for those that suffer with it, it's a irritating and painful at times |

I don't have psoriasis but I have had bad eczema in the past and I have several other skin problems that flare up badly one or two weeks every month unless I am careful. Mine are more easily managed though. A low carb diet clears mine up almost completely. It's just a shame I've not managed to stick to a low carb diet long term so far!
Saying you have my sympathies sounds patronising but I understand what you're going through. I can't offer any suggestions beyond persist with your doctor and dermatologist. I hope you find a resolution soon.
Don't worry about what other people think. I know it's difficult, but tell them in advance and if they have a problem with it, think that those aren't the sort of people you want to meet. They've saved you the trouble of having to meet someone with so little empathy and understanding. |

Whilst a long process they are fine now with top ups every so often. |

My wife has it. Used to be all over but then she developed psoriac arthritis and had to see a specialist.
He put her on a low dose of a cancer drug called methotrexate, just 2 small 10mg tablets 1 day a week and 90% of her psoriasis cleared up within a month and her joints are practically pain free and no more random inflammations.
She was getting joints that would swell up like a melon under the skin, looked like she had ripped a tendon or something!
Any psoriasis that is left is so mild and she has never been happier. She says it is worth a few hours feeling sick on Sunday evening after she takes the pills. |

Right. After this thread I'm feeling determined! It's not gonna win.
I am going to quit sugary foods and alcohol again, do UV again, and drink five pints of water daily (I find this helps a bit) and... I'm going to try and use glycerine on my skin twice daily again.
I did it for a few days on holiday and did see a difference but it was hard work to do consistently.
But I'm going to stick to all of the above for ten days and if it has made a real difference I will stay with it.
Very excited about the glycerin as I did see results after only a few days last time.
More determined this time. And will use the promise of some meets to keep motivated!
Wish me luck. If it works I will report back. |

UV works. A friend had it but I think it's short courses right?
Have you had a consultation with a skin expert (dermatology?)

Having spent many months in Iceland the locals with any skin complaints were prescribed a course of treatment in the blue lagoon, some of the tourists I was looking after also went and it worked for them. You can buy the mineral salts online, it worked wonders for some. |

I used to use a product called Skin Cap. It has a steroid in it so beware, but after a few weeks it got rid of the dry skin. Just a burst every month or so keeps it at bay. It is now called, PSOR-VAL and I buy a can from the US every year. Like most things, there has been good and bad press, but a cousin of mine tried it years ago and it worked. So I had a go. |

Dandelion tea is apparently very good for skin health.
Almonds, almond milk and Brazil nuts..
Up your intake of vitamin c, and eat plenty of spinach, carrot and sweet potato (antioxidants)
Drink plenty of water and consider Pilates or yoga as stress can make it flair. |

One of the worst parts of having this condition is the itch, you can't help but want to scratch and when you do quite often you scratch so hard you start to bleed, well I do when I scratch and then you have people telling you not to do it, sometimes you just have to as it's the only thing that helps
I have had this condition well over 10 years and now I'm not bothered really by people seeing it and asking things, I was quite ofter asked if I had been burned in a fire and would have to explain it was a skin condition and then go through the treatments I had tried or were trying, for a very long time I would hide it or apply so much cream or ointment my clothes would become stained, I even would cover my hands in lotions and wear cotton gloves to bed, but somehow every morning they would of worked their way off, it can and is very demoralising to ones self esteem, mine did seem to calm down last year but last few months my legs have flared up again, you can worry about it or you can let it be a part of you and try to live your life, I am trying to live mine with it, the lady asking the question she and I have talked privately about this and as far as meets go, guys and girls if you were to meet her and had a problem with her and the condition she and some of the posters on here suffer from then it's your problem, I would definitely not have a problem, she is a right fox ?? |
