They never cook from scratch either! It's a pot of this and a bag of that and a packet of the other. Hey presto. High fat, low nutrition, low fibre, full of preservatives crap.

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

Lots of yellow and brown food. Nothing green. And there's so much sugar in processed food it's sickly. Even the bread tastes sweet.

I have a recipe if you'd like?

Tip for top quality Yorkies :

Double the quantity of eggs. Smoking blue beef dripping in yer tins before you pour the mixture.

Give them their dues, they have some of the best Steak Houses I've ever been to. They do know how to cook a slab of meat to perfection!!

As you'd expect though these kinds of places are out numbered about 100-1 by the good old "home style" neighborhood joints that seem to be all over the TV here. I'm thinking DD&D and the like!

Yup. If it isn't steak then we'll deep fry it and call it a special.

My grandson told me a quadruple burger that has over 9000 calories in it. That must be an American burger

Cheshunt

I've been back and forth to the States for the last 13 years. I'd say the quality of the food and the booze has improved remarkably. The rise of the micro-brew pubs has forced them to improve.

There's still crap places to eat out there, same as there are anywhere in the world.

Like a lot of enjoyable food Everytime Its the calories that are the Downfall to much fat etc, but just the Same moderation in what you eat in the Burger world is everything.

I am on holiday here in Thailand at the moment.

Just had breakfast in a local restaurant.

2 Americans opposite me, ate a full English each, using only a fork, and held in their right hand.

No wonder they don't understand cricket, they haven't figured out how to use knives and forks.

I've been to the States quite a lot over the past few years and never had a bad meal.

The tv/media would have you believe they shovel down cheese burger after deep fried chicken like the rest of us breathe air but it's simply not true.

Obviously that stuff is there to order but there's usually a wide choice of healthier meals in menus. Go to some of the family owned restaurants and everything is cooked from scratch too and cheap!

Being a quater American I know what a lot of you mean about the food

When I went to states last year the food has got a lot better yes even greens served with food (Brocoli served with chili flakes)

There is still a lot that is deep fried.....but you can eat healthy if you avoid the diners

Shame I didnt

I cook a lot of American dishes, especially from the Southern parts, all cooked from scratch with fresh ingredients. You cannot beat their breakfasts of their steaks either IMHO, you don't have to eat/prepare their stuff if you are sooooo disgusted by it.

When in a hotel opposite Warwick Castle had a American gent staying. At breakfast the waitress asked him what he'd like. He went on to name the first five cooked breakfasts. The waitress asked which he'd prefer.... He replied all of them. Suddenly I didn't feel so bad about my fried eggs on toast
