I used a GoPro when I went skiing last season. Realised how embarrassingly bad I am when watching the footage. Good camera though, battery doesn't last as long as I expected (may be cos it was cold). |

Gopro's are great little camera's - used them extensively on wedding shoots - but I wouldn't use one as a dah cam. Much rather have a dedicated unit as these show time and date info - which, let's face it, you need to have if you're presenting footage as evidence for insurance claim or police complaint. These cams also have a screen - which helps you set up the camera for the best viewing angle.
The gopro probably allows you to show date and time, but doesn't come with a screen - although you can get a plug in screen or later models have wifi so you can view on a smart phone. A dedicated dash cam will also be much cheaper |

I saw a dedicated dash-cam advertised in the Telegraph cars section last weekend for £20 + about another £20 for extra's - SD card and the like - so cheap enough, was very tempted, but didn't get one. |

I bought a transcend Drive pro200 from amazon.. good little camera. Fix's to windscreen and just switches on when you turn the ignition on.
I have however still to learn how to download to computer one day I will get a lesson from my daughter .

I was stationary in a van, narrow country road, two wheels in the grass on the edge of a ditch.I was trying to leave room for an oncoming horsebox.
Woman driving scraped down the side, causing paint damage. Then tried to blame me.Said she was stationary and I was moving.
A camera would have saved alot of agro.
Fortunately my vehicle had a tracker, and my boss was on my side. |

I've got a specialist dash cam from BlackVue. It's a great little device - sits on the windscreen out of sight behind the rearview mirror. It uses a microSD card (up to 32GB) and just keeps recording - if the SD card fills up it just starts overwriting from the beginning. You can view the footage on your PC or smartphone and it includes GPS info so you can track where you are on a map as the video plays.
I mainly got it because of how often people lie when involved in an accident - can't deny video footage! It's already proved it's worth in a scrape I had with a lorry. |
