Doesn't matter.. You can still get milk up to a decent temp without burning it. They seem to do ok with cappuccino

All coffee shops will have a thermometer in the milk jug to tell the baristart how hot the milk is. If they steam the milk for too long it will burn and then you get that baby vomit smell.

The reason a cappuccino is hotter is because it has less milk and more foam with the coffee.

Also, if the water going through the coffee is too hot the espresso will have a bitter flavour. The best espresso is one which takes a longer time to make. The slower the coffee comes out, the more flavour comes from the coffee.

I really don't understand this , really hot drink thing ?

Most coffee shops make both their cappuccino and lattes too hot for me to drink

However almost all to my knowledge will make extra hot if asked , not all will do cooler, as they insist upon the milk being above a particular temperature

Because too many stupid people scald themselves and blame the hot coffee...

Or coffee is not to be boiled the water needs to short of boiling....

You are taking too long in drinking it, or you don't have an insulated cup....

Put quite simply, no they can't!

If the milk is steamed to a higher temperature then it will burn. The ideal temperature for steamed milk is between 60-70 degrees Celsius. Any hotter thatn this will burn the milk resulting in the taste will being marred and the smell of baby sick as I mentioned before.

Yes to be fair i do often ask if they can make it hot and 'mostly' they will. I was just interested to understand why a Latte isnt as hot as other drinks they serve thats all

I have had Barista training & have trained staff how to make coffees, so I should know what I'm talking about. Most people don't know this but a cappuccino should be cooler than a latte, it's designed to be drank quicker. Yes it's personal preference but a lot of places make coffees too cool, but as said earlier if they do it too hot the milk burns & it ruins the coffee. They should use thermometers, but as you get experienced you can tell how hot it is, by the sound the milk makes & how hot the jug is, temperatures should be 65-70. Hope this helps.

Having worked in a coffee shop I can honestly say that people complaining about lattes is one of the biggest irritations! The same people complaining about the same thing every day... The simple fact is that as has been posted above the milk has to be at a certain temperature, any higher and it burns. If you don't like the temperature then have different drink. Don't keep having the same drink and moaning!! The definition of madness is doing the same thing and expecting different results

I get the preference thing - but like piping hot soup - how the fuck do you consume it without burning your mouth?

I've had the joy of burning the roof of my mouth before - not pleasant!

Simple answer - stop putting other stuff in your coffee! if you like the taste of coffee why do you want it to taste of something else? it should be d*unk as it comes out - black, no milk, no sugar, no nothing. And as for these flavoured syrup things, don't even get me started... ok rant over

Ask for extra hot, that's what I have to for a latte to be decent

I think the start of the demise of civilisation started when coffee shops became more popular than pubs. Every week a pub closes and it seems two coffee shops open in its place. I have never said to anyone "fancy meeting for a coffee?" I have never popped into a coffee shop while out and about, in fact I don't think I have been in a coffee shop for about five years and then I only went in under duress and all I had was a water because I had a sulk on.
