Me! I've just done a weights and body conditioning DVD and found out just how unfit I am . I started a stretch class a couple of weeks ago and am planning on at least one gym session and one swim this week. |

"Mr has been with a gym for over a year lost 2 stone but thinks cardio is better than weight training but fellow gym members say mix it up but he's unsure "
Cardio is good for fat burning, weights is good for conditioning and fat burning. A mixture is probably best. Chuck some HIIT in here and bingo.
Now all I have to do is take my own advice. |

"Focus should be weights. Diet should be low carb. Cardio distant third xx
That depends on what your goal is." YEs high carbs and protein for muscle gain and offseason. You need to be in surplus calories. |

Training regimes/programs should be as individual as the person doing it. What works for one, may not work for the next person.
Talk to the gym instructors and PT's who are in the best position to advise.
Always mix your training up too, sticking with a set routine can lead to boredom, lack of motivation and ultimately lower adherence to it. Try and change it every couple of months or so to keep it fresh and interesting. |

Actually 2 wheels is in excellent shape. Considering.
And its true anyway. If you asked 100 people what their fitness goals were 98% would say 'lose weight'. People don't consider the minutiae like TDEE, IIFYM, BRM, weights vs cardio, HIIT, and so on. They just want to lose weight. |

You misunderstand. Cardio is the best way to lose fat and weight. Core strength etc comes afterwards for most. |

Previously, not often enough. I moved onto push pressing and got quite good at it, but it ultimately lost me power in my standing press and my shoulders shrunk as a result - I was working on the theory that the more weight I could lock out overhead the better, but I was wrong. I now train them every couple of days, that may sound excessive, but that got me the best results in the past. |

I don't mean aerobics and 'feel the burn'. I mean HIIT.
Anyway its a moot point. What works for you might not work for others. Personally I prefer weight training and core work, but I know for a fact that it won't necessarily help me lose weight, muscle being heavier than fat. You train how you wish, and let others get good advice from people in the business, instead of pooh poohing others. |

HIIT has been working for me but muscle doesn't weigh more than fat, a pound of fat is the same as a pound of muscle, muscle is just denser and takes up less space x |

I don't think they misunderstand. Just that like so many on these threads they are incapable of seeing why anyone would have goals that don't match their own and are incapable of recognising the benefits of a training regime other than their own. |

I'd never heard of a Bradford Press until I googled it, I can't see it having any benefits that a standard behind the neck press wouldn't, but it does look like it carries the same rotator cuff dangers. I'm just sticking to standing barbell presses, then finish off with seated dumbbells. Then lateral raises and reverse peck deck. |

I am a climber. I have great strength to weight ratio.
For me I require lean muscle, less bulk, relatively limited cardio exercise.

Its known as the law of specificity - train appropriately in relation to your goal. If you want to improve at distance running for example, you'll have little use for weights, likewise, if you're training for powerlifting, you're not gonna do hours on the treadmill. |

All about running for me. I want to get back to the pace I had a few years ago. And to get better at running you just need to run more. Nothing else helps really. Just run more. |
