Exciting time of the year, knowing spring/summers around the corner, luckily this winter wasn't so bad. Any others sufferers? And how did you get on through the winter? |

Luckily mine seems to have got better over the last few winters, but knowing I'm past Christmas/New year gives me a psychological boost, knowing it's getting lighter every evening. I know it's starts on the winter solstice but around now makes me feel better. |

I've not been so bad this year. I always feel better as the day gets longer and when I can see it getting lighter by the time I finish work ready to come home |

I would fully recommend a product call 5-htp, you can buy them from Holland and Barrett
It will lift your blues and also help you get into a deeper sleep x |

"Will give that a try, usually have my light on in the mornings for 10 mins and that really brightens up my day "
Normal lightbulbs aren't strong enough to mimic natural light but you can get special strong high lumix plug in bulbs that help |

As a sufferer of PTSD I hate this time of year an luv knowing and seeing that we are gaining 15mins each week of daylight..Even my friends today said ive looked the brightest in weeks. When I was based in Norway it was dark nearly 24hrs a day an we were encouraged to use the sunbeds provided. When i came back to Blighty with a tan my wife at the time was convinced I hadn't been in Norway hahaa.... |

"Sorry to sound thick but what is SAD"
Its when there is lack of daylight/sunlight an the body lacks in vitamins. The guitarist out of Bros suffered from it big time. In the winter months in certain countries the suicide rate among males rises hell of alot due to this... |

SAD used to really get to me, I took up cycling & found that the exercise & the being outdoors really made a difference. My partner now notices the difference in me if I haven't ridden for a while (more than 4 days) & pushes me out of the door!
Going a bit bonkers at the moment due to a chest infection, so I can't ride ?? |

Technically, Winter has only just begun....
Spring begins (officially) with the Vernal Equinox on March 21st
Summer begins (officially) with the Summer Solstice - June 22nd
Autumn begins (officially) with the Autumn Equinox on September 23rd
Winter begins (officially) with the Winter Solstice on December 22nd
Not accounting for seasonal lag and other mitigating factors, for example, even though the amount of daylight the nothern hemisphere receives after the Winter Solstice increases, it is not an equal amount extra both morning and evening. For example, this year, our afternoons had already begun getting lighter almost a fortnight before, while our mornings continued to get darker until about a fortnight after.
Seasonal lag is where the hemisphere (in our case northern) continues to cool even though there is more energy coming from the sun. It takes time to catch up - usually a few weeks.
All very fascinating I hear you cry, but it's still bloody cold out.
