I'm sure some may frown upon this in light of current event but I would like to take the opportunity to say how proud I am to be British.
I could bang on about freedom of speech, the NHS or everyone's right to vote but I think it's the small things that make me glow with pride.
Examples.
British music.
BBC documentaries (especially
David Attenborough)
We invented all sports. (The ones that mean something)
Fish n chips
Our ability to laugh at ourselves
Etc Etc
Now it's your go

Why would anyone frown on being proud of your nationality? As long as it isn't jingoistic then I think it's a good thing.
I'm proud to be British.
We absorb the best food and words from others:
fish and chips - Jewish in origin
Pyjamas, bungalow and many other words - Indian

Proud to be a Geordie.
Feel part of the North East more than I feel English or British.
I felt this even more when I lived in Scotland for six years, where I was accepted for being a Geordie by the same people who would have given me grief for being English. |

Sorry , I like to respect individuals who deserve it , not everyone within arbatory boundaries
I have no respect or pride for ukip , or its supporters , I have no pride for the Iraq war or Afghanistan for that matter,
A random human in London is as important to me as one in central Africa xx

I'm very proud to be a Scot. My country has provided more to the world than most. But I consider myself British, I've sworn loyalty as a soldier three times now (originally TA, then Regular, and TA again). I've lived in England more than I have in Scotland.
One thing I don't consider myself is European. Our island culture is significantly different to both the French or Germans. Our closest colleagues in Europe are the Scandinavians and the Bretons. |

Stereotypical nonsense
The uk is diverse I will have more in common with some other humans in the world than I will some humans in the uk
And then what has having stuff in common got to do with respecting and learning from other humans
Tribalism is what I see and it's pretty divisive |

This was meant to be a thread about the things that make me proud to be British
Music, Comedy, Literature, Films etc
Not about the longitude and latitude of someone's abode.
Why am I not surprised I'm not able to celebrate the British culture

I'm proud to be British,
I'm proud to be English,
I'm proud to be Welsh,
I'm proud to be European,
I'm proud to be a Scoucer,
I'm proud to be ME.
I'm also proud of my Irish and Scottish ancestors.
There is probably not an indigenous person in the whole of the British Isles who does not English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh blood in them if you back more than three generations. In reality there are no real Scottish, Irish, Welsh or English people just British, even in Ireland. All this 'I'm Welsh/Scottish/Irish not British is just the machinations of over ambitious politicians trying to pull us apart".
Feel what you want but don't delude your self in the process. |

There is a difference between tribalism and feeling proud of where you are from. I can feel proud of being British, English, Geordie and a bit Welsh without that suggesting I think any of those things are superior to everyone else in the world.
A sense of community and local pride is a good thing and shouldn't be denigrated as somehow small minded, xenophobic or backwards. |

Now it's your go
What's etc etc?
I do love England and I'm certainly happy here. There are a few minutes when I miss Ireland BUT It's not that far to get to.
I have been to Ireland and the people are so kind.
What I miss is the Guinness it tastes so much better over in Ireland
They're alright....ha.
I miss the random conversations you'd have with strangers although I do seem to attract weirdos when I'm about London town.
Guinness...There is one pub in Limerick and it serves the best Guinness I have ever tasted.
We went to Limerick and was very kindly asked to leave the pub as it was A IRA pub.
Hahaha. No way!
That is surprising.
It was a long time ago when the troubles were on , the landlord was very nice and just said drink up lads its not the best pub for you to be drinking in
I got told by a DJ in Belfast that he wouldn't play Tina Turner - Simply the Best because it was a sectarian song. I thought that might have just been an excuse....
how long ago was that
About 2 years ago, I just have embarrassing music taste "
Not at all he probably didnt like her |

I'm proud to be Welsh and proud to be British. One thing that really gets on my pip though is when English people think they are Britain alone, take the Olympics and even the commentators were like oh another medal for England and it just happened to be jade jones winning the gold medal for taekwondo, hello she's welsh but it's a medal for Britain not just england! All the medals were made in Wales too, little fact for people!
When Scotland were voting to stay or leave BRITAIN, Wales didn't get a mention, Northern Ireland didn't get a mention, newspapers showing English flags with captions saying "don't leave us" umm hello it should have been the Union Jack to represent the whole of the united kingdom.
But to answer the op yes I am proud to be british, as fucked up as things are over here it must be a good place or else we wouldn't have 1000's of immigrants trying to get into the place.

The commentators really said 'England'? They should've been fired for that. I too hate it when people conflate Britain and England together. |

"I'm not British I'm Scottish
but you still British too, like it or not, it's a simple fact that you cannot ever get away from so your post is totally incorrect
sorry incorrect why? Because you say so?
I was born and raised in Scotland... Therefore... I'm Scottish ... Simple
Never have and never will be British my opinion "
Some peoples lack of common sense really amazes me sometimes... it has nothing to do with I say so
It's a rather simple concept to grasp of being born within the British Isles that makes you British as well as Scottish
if you didn't want to be Brittish then you should have been born in Botswana or somewhere, but you weren't , you we're born in Scotland, Britian ...
oh to upset you even more, you're European too |

I am always English first and proud to be English, but that doesn't mean I reject the fact I am British also. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's not fact. |

I consider myself Cornish - but many would argue with me! In recent years we have been able to tick "Cornish" on nationality boxes on forms and it's a small step maybe but makes me proud every time I do it. This is a beautiful county with an amazing history and some great people. |

"Why do some humans need to generalise segregate and feel pride for achievements they have zero personal involvement with ?
"
Because they're human, you fool.
I love the way you do your petulant utmost to stir things up, no-one really takes you seriously at all...!!!
Sorry. It's natural to identify, it's what makes us who we are. |
