Pretty beautiful

Jump to: Newest in thread

Unsurprisingly compliments get passed around a lot on here, particularly toward women, but how many people distinguish between complimentary words, I mean are they all equally good or do they have varying degrees of complimentary value? For example, I'd usually say 'pretty' is a lower level of good-looking than 'beautiful', which would be the apex of physical attractiveness, but some faces the word pretty just seems to fit better, like it describes a more fresh faced, girly kind of appeal, rather than beautiful which is more mature and womanly, a bit like if a woman said she met a 'cute' guy I'd imagine he was young and boyish looking, whereas a 'handsome' man would be a more chiselled, square jawed and rugged look.

Overthinking? Maybe, but I like to be precise when telling a woman why she appeals to me

...and yes of course, a woman can be appealing in more than just her good looks, but this thread was inspired by peoples faces.

No compliments mean anything to me on here if a guy mails me with compliments I know its just bull shit, I'd sooner them just be honest and say you'll do rather than tell me I'm gorgeous and have a great body when quite clearly I'm not and I don't

I hear stunning a fair bit, and gorgeous, both of which are absolutely ridiculous when applied to me.

Attractive to some? Yes, maybe. Pretty? Perhaps, to some beholders.

Stunning? Only if I hit them with a frying pan.

Gorgeous? No. Patent "I'm saying what I think you want to hear" bullshit.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I get a lot of messages saying I am stunning and they love my pics, which I take with a pinch of salt as my only public pic is of my back. Now I do think I have a particularly good looking back, but stunning? I doubt it. Therefore I don't believe any compliments I receive on here.

I think you are overthinking things for on here....most will disregard any compliments anyway, and those that don't probably aren't that bothered what words you use...they will lap up any compliment.

I agree with this

There are lots and lots of compliments thrown around in here as you say, they're all nice to hear (or rather read) I associate them all with slightly different meanings too so a variation is nice.

I'm never really sure about the 'girl next door look'. I've never had hot neighbours though.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

There are so many compliment the person above threads that compliments do get bandied around a lot.

I accept pretty. My face is one of those that pretty fits better than beautiful. However, I know that to a handful of people I look beautiful.

I have spent the last 18 months learning to accept compliments. Anything genuinely given should be accepted with grace.

If a woman called me 'ok looking' I'd read that as she doesn't find me appealing at all, and simply made a plain bread, water flavoured remark simply to move the topic on without offending me.

The words used to describe faces are as much about the descriptor as the descriptee. What I consider pretty/beautiful/cute etc. is entirely down to my own aesthetic judgement so the words I choose are accurate only in my own perception. I assume the same in others and also have a healthy dose of cynicism as to why they may be using them. Someone I don't know messaging me out of the blue to tell me I'm pretty or whatever carries less weight than someone I know or have been chatting to telling me the same thing.

The only word I dont like to use or receive is the word nice. To be a nice guy, in my experience is indicator your in the dreaded friend zone!

Some words I find inappropriate almost for example would you describe a 45 year old woman as cute? Id say sexy, in control ect rather than cute

Years and years ago, in a former life (and different country!) I was a boudoir photographer.

Most of my clients were women who were about to get married. But some wanted a self esteem boost. Or it was an anniversary present.

As I photographed them, I found myself looking at a woman as her husband would. Because that's who the photos were for.

And as I got the lighting set up, got them posed (and laughing usually!) saw stunning, mind blowing beauty in every single one of those women.

We have to move past beauty being just one type of look.

The women I photographed were from every walk of life, from a size 6/8 to.. I think the biggest I photographed was a size 26?

So girls, please don't assume those words don't apply to you.

I never quite know what to say when guys I do find attractive send me their face pic.

Saying nothing is a bit pants. Saying whoa, you're hot sounds daft.

Thanks for the pic, I'm heartened to see you don't have 2 heads?

Compliments said in person to my face are more credible to me. You can see in the person's eyes if they are being truthful. I have had women and children tell me I'm pretty with no make up. Compliments don't swell my head or boost my ego,it's nice to get genuine ones but I don't crave them

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

I tend to disregard compliments on here... especially the OMG you are beautiful/stunning/gorgeous ones - all my profile shows is my back and arse, for all they know I might have a face like a well melted wellie boot...

Away from fab, I accept genuine compliments, but do find it hard... I was the plain girl growing up who never got dates or interest from boys... and still find it odd that anyone would be interested.

But yes, there is a scale - average, ok, pretty, beautiful, gorgeous and then stunning.

I don't throw compliments about for the sake of it. If I find a guy/woman gorgeous I will say. It's not just empty words.

I personally do not find myself attractive whatsoever but Hex does and tbh it's his view of me that matters the most. If someone here tells me (insert whatever compliment) then I try to accept it, even if I think it is a load of crap, and say thank you.

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder. While you may not think yourself beautiful/hot/gorgeous/whatever else, someone else will.

One of the "compliments" I believed most readily, which someone on a site similar to this wrote on seeing my face photo was that it was a pleasant surprise and I was better than he expected.

I would never demean myself by giving a false compliment whether on or away from Fab.

I completely understand why women on here have become hardened to recieving compliments, clearly many are not sincere. That though is not my concern.

The integrity of my compliments is very important to me, I therefore always choose my words carefully. Pretty is very different to beautiful.

I think everyone's scale is a bit different then, I always think of 'beautiful' as being the epitome - saying more than gorgeous or stunning, but that could be because I think they as compliments are wrapped up more with an element of sexual attraction. But beautiful for me means literally pleasing to my senses...so I can appreciate someone or something as aesthetically beautiful without having any attraction to them whatsoever.

don't agree with this at all , you can't tell someone what they do or do not find attractive , after all your never going to be attracted to yourself , and why would any one say those things on here if they didn't find you sexually appealing or pretty Ect , people won't sleep with people they don't fancy , think your selling yourself short Hun and also to a degree judging people in the assumption there "bull shitting " x

I pretty much (but not beautifully much ) agree, sometimes I can refer to a woman as stunning and in my way that means I really do think she's something VERY special in terms of her sexual appeal, but beautiful really is the very top of the measuring stick - it means there's something about her I'd compare to flower petals, green grass, wind through the tree leaves and rays of sunshine, there's a strong emotional engagement in that word, something that crackles with positive energy, excitement, inspiration and wonder.

There are a number of women in the public eye who to my eye are not what one would call beautiful, yet overall they look stunningly attractive, eg Darryl Hannah.

Then there are the supposed "beautiful" ones like Princess Diana, who for very "good" photo there are many where she looks shite, not to mention her character.

Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that.

Overthinking? Maybe, but I like to be precise when telling a woman why she appeals to me "

I get gorgeous and stunning all the time on here, which is laughable without face pics!
