When you were little did you ever try to dig to China?

TUT! I don't think you all realise just exactly the scale of the job in question.
To dig even a few 1000 feet down would involve huge drilling machinery, that's not to mention the elaborate support structure you would need to stop the hole from caving in.

. My sister and I would try to dig to China every time we were at the beach......... We usually gave up and buried my brother instead. this thread did make me laugh, I thought her and I were the only two kids to ever try digging to China! |

Found a fantastic site where the Earth is imagined as a sandwhich.
I put one point on Liverpool and 'dug' through the earth.
Ignoring all the science where i'd be inert or burned or melted or such or dead - I'd end up in the ocean which is South East of New Zealand not China not Australia.
We always dug for Aussie. |

"It was raining.
So me and my mate decided to dig inside.
In my wardrobe.
We only got an inch or so down before my mum found us.
You can still see the marks on my arse..."
Thank you ! When ? |

If you had succeeded in digging a hole all the way through to Australia, and then your little brother fell in, more likely pushed, what speed would he be travelling when he got to Australia.
OR, would gravity have slowed him down so he just barely popped out on Bondi? |
