Is it time to make politicians work for their salary?

Somewhere in North Norfolk

How many don't even bother to show up for debates and votes on a regular basis?

It's not like they have to pay for their own travel, accommodation or meals in order to do so.

Should we sanction MPs for failing to bother? Lazy, scrounging bastards.

Incidentally, some new expenses figures have recently been published, I believe.

I've not yet checked but apparently McVey claimed over £50k on top of her salary and Lying Duncan Smith claimed over £22k.

A significant number of people working full-time don't earn £22k annually (never mind get that net).

Who are the scroungers?

It's about time they brought some technology in and made them vote via videolink. No excuses for not turning up then. Maybe x-factor style

I might be wrong here but also seem to remember them saying that the 11% pay rise they gave themselves would mean that expenses would be severely cut back on?

Of the people, By the people, For the people......Yeah right!!

They should be sacked for falling asleep or at the very least tasered , and they should also take regular compulsory drug tests. Oh and they should be prosecuted for attempted theft as in common law not given the opportunity to hand the booty back .

I wonder how many of this committee are being adversely affected by Austerity?

It was an independent committee as David Cameron did actually protest against the decision until.....saying oh go on then if you will insist. If you want to know the biggest drain on the taxpayer its these fat lazy bastards who have been robbing us blind while lining their own pockets. Reduce wages, scrap expenses and force them to actually do their job which is listen to the people who they've been elected to lead

Being an MP isn't just about what goes on in the Chamber. Check out BBC Parliament to see what else goes on.

Most people never see what their MP actually does behind the scenes.

Creating "non jobs" that pay well for family members, completing hundreds of claims forms for expenses, unlimited free transport to far away places,to see how other countries do things.

Sorting out a new career, that is well paid, for when we get voted out of office.

2 homes to keep both fully funded at tax payers expense, just so they dont have to travel first class into London.

An entire office to supervise and run, as well as those late night meetings in the local 5* hotel.

The cost of these 650 people is probably more than the cost of UK unemployment.

Anyone fancy a cheap drinking session in the state subsidised smoking lounge,we like to pretend is our second office
