Mostly in GU24

Just a rant because I'm post xmas brassic and hate scammers.

So there I am, on Facebook, clicked on a daily Telegraph link to a very sad story about the death of an actor during rehearsals.

Scrolling down on my phone to read the story suddenly another page opens, revealing your typical porn pics. Now, I'm no prude but is not what I was looking for. So I tried to go back several times before closing my browser, a process which took less than 3 seconds.

Then I received a text telling me I've been charged £8 for the video I supposedly watched. There's a link on the text which no doubt would relieve me of yet more cash if I was to click on it.

Scum.

How did it know your phone number to text you? Are you sure you don't have malware on your phone?

Typically, the Daily Telegraph isn't known for its porn pop-ups.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

In the absence of any other data, I suggest it may not have been a genuine Telegraph link.

Now I am shit with computers and technology, but at least I have procedures in place to stop this sort of practise in it's tracks

I had the same thing happen with pop ups on my tablet after following the same link. Didn't get a text though. Check with whichever network you are on and see if you have been billed, if so explained what happened.

Has the money actulally been paid somehow, rather than just the popup inviting you to another site where a less aware person might start filling in the questions/boxes?

If it was a text and you've been charged you can complain to phonepayplus.org.uk the premium text/call regulator. They take a pretty dim view of this type of stuff
