Would anyone know if there is a way of retrieving photos and videos after a phone has been factory reset? .Something I've managed to do by accident and lost the lot .most of it does not matter, but there s a few of my mum before she passed and a few pics of Jay looking sultry which I'd love to recover.thank you in advance P xx

It's HTC one by the way

If you had them on the memory stick you can (pretty sure most htc's have additional memory allowed) if they werent synched to an account in anyway then unfortunately they are gone

Recuva.

It's a freeware utility to recover files from SD cards and USB storage. Mount your phone as an external USB drive and run the utility against it. Worth a shot.

Yes you can get some recovery software. It is chargeable but i managed to restore all my moms photos on her phone and she had deleted the lot. It does get a bit mad as it will restore deleted photos that were deleted ages ago. I found that I was restoring some photos over and over again. Some of them were from when they were in one directory and moved to another. As I saw someone else in this forum say.... do not add more stuff. It can make it a lot harder to restore the pictures.

Of no use at all, but I've got a vision of you with your phone opened up in front of you, bright light above. You in an apron and surgical mask, tweezers in hand, rooting about in your phone, hoping you don't hear a buzz as you play Operation with it.

Good luck in it all.

Usually a factory reset does wipe the phone an memory clear, if you moved stuff to the computer your fine but if not they gone.. Long gone.. I've never known andriod to offer a off phone storage such as cloud for apple, maybe a google account as such if you moved them but if not they gone.. Retake them maybe?

You would be shocked - I thought that. However it does not wipe the contents. It just deletes the filenames ready to be re written over by new data. We had a blank phone and managed to get pretty much everything back.

TO THE OP - I am looking through my records for the name of the software I used. It worked tho. Just do not take any more pics or vids yet.

Yep done it myself - Works well and even brings photos back that were taken when the phone was first bought. Pretty impressive stuff.

What a load of rubbish, you've just shown you haven't a clue of what you're talking about!!

OP, the free programme you should try first is called Recuva, download it to your pc from 'file hippo'.

I saw some of the free ones and if my phone would have fine for it but moms so I paid for one which worked.

Some people do believe that if you delete a file it is gone. Most operating systems just delete certain information from the file name and also the fat table (file allocation table). It tells the phone that the space that file is located at is free to use for future pictures.

Unknown to some as well that even if you do wipe over it there are ways of bringing the overwritten file back in some circumstances however most times it will be corrupted once overwritten.

If you delete a file do nothing else. You have more chance of getting it back.

As for online storage.... I do not trust it. A simple USB cable into a computer with the correct software normally does the job, just save it to a reliable source and then the problem is resolved.

Also if your phone developed a fault and goes into repair a lot of companies will flash the phone (wipe it) unless you tell them not to. If the board needs replacing you risk losing the lot.

Save photos to a memory card, most up to date laptops have a card reader built in, failing that there are many cheap USB card readers. A simple transfer to a computer takes the risk out of you losing your data because your phone developed a fault, user error or even theft.

Prevention is the word here.
