I don't normally watch television much but this is one programme I look forwards too. Mike Brewer and Mr Ed China. I much prefer this to Top Gear I know there two different types of programmes but who agrees? |

"Addicted to wheeler deelers but like top gear don't know what I would do without discovery and history channels got my wife into gold rush as well "
Used to be addicted to deadliest catch when i had sky tv. I've now switched over to BT vision and don't get Discovery or history channels anymore. |

"It annoys me on WD that they don't account for labour costs.
If they were included, they'd lose money on virtually every deal."
They don't include labour as their profit is the labour costs, just like if you had done the work

If there is no money in it and you aren't gonna keep the car, why do it ?
Seems a hell of a lot of effort for zero return, unless of course you enjoy doing cars up for the fun if it.

I even like that vet character who restores bikes and cars and builds planes and helicopters."

But I thought the little guy employed the tall one ?
Or do they share the proceeds ?
If a mechanic can earn £30 to £40k a year for example, you'd have to turn a hell of a lot of motors over to make an equal amount doing this instead.
I do like the programme btw |

They share the profit. This is about buying cheap and selling high. Mechanics are different in that sense of the word s they charge an hourly rate for doing a job, service for example. Rather than buy one car and do 10 thinks to it, a mechanic will do 5 things to 5 different cars but never sell them. The wheeler dealer is more like the home mechanics and all about buying, fixing and selling the cars. |

Are the profits that high that they can sustain 2 mens wages though.
So if 2 guys are in it, could they easily net 60 to 80k a year (between them) after their outgoings ?
At £2,000 a car, that's 40 cars a year or 1 about every 10 days.
Is that achievable ?
See what you've started now ? |

Getting the cars at the right price would be difficult to maintain it. You're more likely to do half a dozen cars making 5k profit, or run a high turnover low profit model as a second job. I'd love to do it and if I was back home in Manc I would be with my mates |

"Top Gear is fifty per cent silly, and I do think they need to add a female presenter to tone down the laddiness. I still watch it though.
I also enjoy car SOS on More4. Try it"
Car SOS is ace especially when Fuzz is either converted as a fan of what they're doing our just gets one up on Tim. Loved the RS episodes.
I don't think TG needs a lass though, fifth gear has VBH (yes please ) but don't think TG needs a female influence, if they got it wrong, it would spoil the format I think |

Agree 100% on the RS cosworth car SOS.
However top gear is stagnant and needs something. VBH is the obvious choice, but Susie Wolff might work too. Or have Victoria Coren bossing them about. She could boss me around anytime |

"It annoys me on WD that they don't account for labour costs.
If they were included, they'd lose money on virtually every deal." the whole point of the programme is that Edd doesn't have labour costs. He represents a DIY mechanic doing the jobs himself. On lots of the jobs he tells you how much money you'd pay for a pro to do it. |

The actual profit is selling the tv show to the discovery channel.
The theme of the show, i.e flipping cars is just another production cost.
At least the cars usually pay for themselves, so it is actually a pretty cheap show to make, except for the ones where he buys cars from America! |

I do enjoy Top Gear, but it is becoming staid. The Top Gear special to Patagonia was very dull. In a lot of ways, I would like it to go back to a proper car show rather than a comedy show.
I do like Wheeler Dealers, they have brought some very nice cars back to life.
Fast'n'Loud is my fav car related show at the moment.
Car SOS is a great show, I really like Fuzz and he really seems to have an eye for detail.
Counting Cars has some great hot rods.
Chip Foose does some beautiful cars on OverHaulin.
Fifth Gear is OK, but I cant stand VBH.

I like both programs, but prefer tg. Being in the motor trade I find wheeler dealers is far to set up. Never known so many old cars that come apart so easily
And someone needs to tell Ed that tee shirts go under jumpers, not on top ! |

If you read their web page it says that Ed plays the part of a home mechanic and carries out the kinds of jobs that many of us could do at home in our garages. They send the specialist jobs out to other companies and include those costs at the end. |

Wheeler dealers is a lot more sensible and dont talk nonsensical shite.. I saw my first programme on Wheeler dealers on guest tv? I think, It was on this last week one gets a car for a Good deal and thee other guy converts it I,m sure it was a porsche They converted, took all the carpets out, new shock absorbers 4 of them at £500 each (they have to work to a budget) and also putting in a roll
cage around the drivers seat after Quite a bit of renervation Along with Some welding Involved they did go over Their budget in the end but they got All their costs back after the sale of The car to be used specifically on a Raceing track.. "

Google as well me thinks. No doubt he knows a lot but when Mike brings his shed back he googles for known issues and common faults/fixes. If not him the researchers do |

Lol and who knows while Eds googling for car issues/parts Mr brewer is proberly on Fabswingers tbh I did come across a profile that said "why have a Fiesta when you can have a Rolls" and stuff like "been around a bit but plenty of miles left on the clock" the kind of things Mike says so now we know what he gets up to with that laptop his always on |

I cringe watching WD Ed comes out see with so much crap, watch the one when they buy a Suzuki jeep. Change the engine, all the suspension, axels, weld in a Roll cage to the chassis then find out when they take it for an MOT the chassis is rotten, wtf expert my ass |

I just googled edd china. He owns a company that manufactures novelty vehicles - did you know that he built the double decker cars for top gear?
He also holds the land speed record for the fastest sofa...92 mph lol
He has a degree in engineering so I would say he does know his stuff. |

Edd is a fairly familiar face on various car forums, often getting advice on fixes for common faults on the cars he and Mike are working on.
It's also worth mentioning that Mike Brewer is also an excellent mechanic, something that's not mentioned on the show at all. |
