Why not get photo verified? (Helps to out the fakes)

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

With smartphones and just technology in general these days why don't people get photo verified?

(For anyone who doesn't know, You send in a face pic to fab with a piece of paper with your ID and fabswingers on it. Only fab see it but they then put a green flag on your profile confirming your profile:- a woman/couple etc)

There are so many men pretending to be women it's just such a shame and it spoils the site. I'd like to try and raise awareness to get more verified to out the fakers

I don't want to, for several reasons which I've discussed on here before. I can't be bothered to type them out again.

There are good reasons and photo verification doesn't necessarily prove anything anyway. It's no guarantee anyone will meet. It doesn't guarantee their circumstances are as they say. It can even be circumvented fairly easily in order to pretend to be someone else.

There is no way at all I will get photo verified. If the site requires it at any point, I'll leave.

If you think an easily manipulated photo would reduce the problem you are being naive.

Webcam veri's exist. Many are simply videos.

Meet in person veri's exist. They have been proved to be fictitious in the past.

Use common sense and your gut instinct. Everything else is a potentially fallible tool.

Someone half decent with photoshop could get photo verified if they wanted being someone completely different... still maintain actual meet verifications are worth more, add on a cam one or two and surely the profile is legit?

Do you have any photos on here that identify you and prove you engage in swinging?

If, say, this site was hacked, and a photo of your face with a sign saying fabswingers was released onto the internet, how would you feel? Would you expect everyone on the site to be happy to take that risk?

Face photos on here prove nothing. If taken from the site and shared, they are just face photos. Someone else could have put them here. A face photo showing you holding a fabswingers sign is a bit more difficult to deny and identifies exactly where to find your profile and under what name.

Once that photo is in internetland, no matter how private and secure it is supposed to be, it's out of your control.

How many celebrities have had photos they thought private and protected spread round the net?

I met in person to get verified. I'm not putting a photo of that nature on the internet, under the control of someone else.

Photo verification *may* suggest someone is likely to be who they say but photos are easily manipulated.

Photo verification can't prove someone is honest, reliable and likely to show up.

Not photo verified and not bothered if people think we are fake. we are on cam in the chat room so if people want to see if we are real then they can find us in there lol. we can normally tell in two or three messages if people are fake or just wasting our time. But we don't concentrate on fakes or time wasters we enjoy the lovely genuine people we come across. The rest are just part of using a site like this ...

Hereabouts

Get photo verified, don't get photo verified. Talk to people who are photo verified, don't talk to people who are photo verified. It's your choice what you do. If you don't want to talk to fakes, limit the chances by blocking non-verified people and only talking to those who have verifications from meeting in person. And then check that persons profile and make sure they are verified too, by more than one person. Keep looking until you're satisfied it's not a conspiracy. See how long that would take? And how tedious it would be after you've done it 100 times a day? Probably just as tedious as complaining about people being fakes. Just deal with it. You can't please everyone and you can't change the world with one forum post.

Bloke sets up female profile for a laugh. Gets a female friend to hold a piece of paper with words on it (showing no face as this isn't required by the site!). Takes photo. Is now 'verified' as a female.

See the flaw?

How? I'm really not seeing the logic?

Woman joins fab, get verified that they're a woman. Message someone, they can see flag as confirmation.

Main joins fab pretending to be a woman, messages someone, no green flag. Could be a woman...might not.

Green flag adds some validity to the profile?

Bloke sets up female profile for a laugh. Gets a female friend to hold a piece of paper with words on it (showing no face as this isn't required by the site!). Takes photo. Is now 'verified' as a female.

See the flaw?

A"

Nope i dont, i see it as another hurdle for some pissed up youth or guy to overcome, and thats the point lol

Agreed - surely this means more than the green flag?

I agree veri's count for more than anything but everyone has to start somewhere so a little green flag would add some validity to the profile?

I met in person to get verified. I'm not putting a photo of that nature on the internet, under the control of someone else.

Photo verification *may* suggest someone is likely to be who they say but photos are easily manipulated.

Photo verification can't prove someone is honest, reliable and likely to show up.

I agree, it wont show that they will turn up or whatever they say they will, i've had verified people not turn up, but what it will tell you is they they say who they are and not some hairy arsed trucker on a females profile lol

How does it help knowing that if they don't show up?

Do you have any comment on the scenario I describe and the reason some may not want to be photo verified?"

all a PV verification shows me is that you managed to write a name on a piece o paper and take a selfie..... nothing more....

I'll agree to PV when someone can tell me how PV does the following:

a) someones height is correct

b) someones age is correct

c) someones sexuality is correct

d) whether someone turned up for a meet...

e) whether someone is an arse

"With smartphones and just technology in general these days why don't people get photo verified?

(For anyone who doesn't know, You send in a face pic to fab with a piece of paper with your ID and fabswingers on it. Only fab see it but they then put a green flag on your profile confirming your profile:- a woman/couple etc)

There are so many men pretending to be women it's just such a shame and it spoils the site. I'd like to try and raise awareness to get more verified to out the fakers

"

So, how would the mods checking the photos be able to actually tell that they are who they say they are? Would you suggest that they have to cross reference every picture uploaded against a verification photo that may or may not include their faces? You are aware of the numbers involved in this?

I just don't see how this would out any fakes whatsoever...We never even notice whether a profile is photo verified...It just seems utterly pointless...there are far better ways. If it was made compulsory, the time taken would almost definitely mean that it couldn't continue to be a free site as the mods who are volunteers would need to be paid for the vast amount of time it would take, and many genuine people such as ourselves who feel it would be intrusive and unnecessary would leave...

That's kind of the argument many are stating here.

What does that prove? That a faceless woman took a selfie? Nothing more.

And trust me - there are plenty out there that would do the same for a friend for a drink or other small favour.

The site could be hacked. The server could be stolen. Admin might make a mistake and mess up the file protection. Admin might throw a wobbly and release the photos. A flaw in server software might expose the photos to the public internet.

You can't guarantee the file will stay private. It's in the wild and out of your control. Forever. You have no chance of getting it back, controlling it or tracing it.

Fabio, i think you missed the point tbh, its really to show that your a male. female or couple. not that your willing to meet or not, like i said, i've had verified people not turn up, it just helps the process of ing out the fakes, and to say if the site got hacked it would be out there, check on tineye, then check some of the pics that are uploaded on here lol

I don't think it should be mandatory either. But I don't do clubs and socials and was conscious that a woman on here for a certain length of time without verifications might look fake (as in a man pretending - which the photo does show I'm not!) It's just another tool, can't be relied upon on it's own but another route for some people.

As we do now, use common sense and various other methods to check people out before arranging meets.

There's never going to be a guarantee.

This site provides a means to contact people. The rest is up to us.

Guess we're fake then!

we are not photo verified either, however we do feel if a member of fab wants to put a face pic on public display, they should be photo verified first.

why?

Seems to be a fare few new ' single fem ' profiles displaying face pics yet cant take a pic holding a piece of paper displaying their fab name.

( not suggesting they could be fake for one minute though

"I'm photo verified. Mainly because it took me a while to decide to meet, and in the mean time it felt like a way of showing I was making some small effort to prove I was real. It's not the be-all and end-all but I don't really understand why people object to it.

I've explained why I object. It's not a photo I want out of my control.

Sorry I didn't read the full thread first

But I took my verification photo against a blank, non-recognisable background, it's headless and I'm naked. It could be leaked to the world and I wouldn't give a toss, no one would recognise me from it.

That's kind of the argument many are stating here.

What does that prove? That a faceless woman took a selfie? Nothing more.

And trust me - there are plenty out there that would do the same for a friend for a drink or other small favour.

A"

For me it shows that a faceless woman could be arsed to take a selfie with a piece of paper, therefore is slightly less likely to be a man who is bored because he's just got in from the pub.

Also I don't have friends who'd help me facilitate pretending to be a different sex on a swingers site...and I wouldn't for them either

okay.... i decided to go to clubs and socials to prove i was real...... but that was a me decision..

no one is calling for those to be mandetory.....

I don't think it should be mandatory either. But I don't do clubs and socials and was conscious that a woman on here for a certain length of time without verifications might look fake (as in a man pretending - which the photo does show I'm not!) It's just another tool, can't be relied upon on it's own but another route for some people. "

For all the people that say "why Bother" to photo verification, if you have nothing to hide, then "Why Not"

its very easy to say - oh we are verified by other people but it is also easy to have 2 accounts, and verify yourself, so again;

why not?

You're really not getting this, are you?

How can you be sure it stays private once it's out of your control?

The site could be hacked. The server could be stolen. Admin might make a mistake and mess up the file protection. Admin might throw a wobbly and release the photos. A flaw in server software might expose the photos to the public internet.

You can't guarantee the file will stay private. It's in the wild and out of your control. Forever. You have no chance of getting it back, controlling it or tracing it.

Yet you have a full body pic in public on your profile which someone could easily recognise you from ?? "

How could they prove I know it's here?

You can't see how with a face pic and a sign giving the site name and the username of the profile showing my photos, it would be more difficult to deny I knew?

I don't object to it. I don't really care what others do or don't do. I object to the suggestuon it should be mandatory. And I object to the belief it eliminates fakes.

The reality is that most people that think it should be compulsory need to look at what they are doing not blame the site for being taken in.

And if it's that big a deal why don't people just block unverified?

Because I value my privacy and photo verification is too big a risk to that for no reward, in my opinion.

I think people object because it's always in the media about websites being hacked and photos and personal details being leaked. As soon as the site is compromised who knows where your facepic identifying you as a swinger using fabswingers and a direct link to your profile will be published.

I agree it would make it harder for the d*unks on a Friday night to join but people will find away around it. Getting a friend to do pic with/for them so together they can be nosy and annoying and generally have a laugh when they have led someone up the garden path etc

In theory good idea, in practice not so much xx

As a single guy, getting photo verified proved I was who I said I was. It kind of helped me get a few meets and get my green tick. I guess it can prove useful to some extent. Loads of couples have been here for over a year, neither meet or pic verified. When I suggest they are a guy posing as a couple their profile usually gets hidden for a few days. Sad really.

And it would be simple for someone to copy it, crop the site name off - and upload it to 'nakedknittersoftexasdotcom' or 'strappingleathercladgayfishmongersdotcom' - without you having a clue!!

By keeping face shots vanilla and naughty pics faceless you maintain deniability. Why is that so hard to understand!

A"

We have no explicit pictures. They can all be found elsewhere. If we were outed we could delete our presence in seconds. There would be no incriminating trace anywhere.

If we were photo verified there would be a pic with our username and the site name still in existence somewhere and we'd have no control over it.

Why can people not see the potential risk of that?

I once joined a small, specialist fetish site. My posting style and attitudes aren't typically female (apparently) and some suspected I was male.

I went to a social. Job done and I had fun at the same time.

Still don't get why this is a major debate, it falls to the choice of the member of the site... if they want to get photo verified cool, if they don't no big issue.

If the OP or anyone feels they won't meet someone without that person being photo verified then that is entirely their decision.

There is nothing here to really get our knickers in a twist about, no point in moaning if someone feels another member doesn't understand why it is important to be photo verified... If we felt it was and it was right for us then no issue we would get it done!

we are not photo verified either, however we do feel if a member of fab wants to put a face pic on public display, they should be photo verified first.

why?

Seems to be a fare few new ' single fem ' profiles displaying face pics yet cant take a pic holding a piece of paper displaying their fab name.

( not suggesting they could be fake for one minute though

Ok I see what you're saying. Yes it might deter some of the morons that think it's ok to steal a pic off the internet to create a fake female profile.

But photo verification can be faked too. Not sure what the answer is.

A few Q's ...

1. Why are only men suspected of pretending to be women or couples ?

2. Why do men do it on Fridays ?

3. What harm does it do if a bloke pretending to be a woman sends you a message ? unless you are one of those people that part with your dignity , your wallet and your load within three messages.

A bloke who wants a female persona on a swinging site........ who'd have thought it.

Agreed - surely this means more than the green flag?

I agree veri's count for more than anything but everyone has to start somewhere so a little green flag would add some validity to the profile?"

One of the first things i did when i joined the site was get photo verified. I think its only open to abuse when the verification photos become public, as i saw on another swingers site people would copy the photos and use photoshop to alter the wording on the piece of paper.

Anyhow i just like having the green flag on my profile page, if it would help people like the OP feel more secure about meeting me then i only see that as a good thing.

"

I actually agree with this post but also add the need that every profile should have a public face photo undisguised.

I never hide what I am I tell everyone I am transgender unfortunately many don't in some ways I can be classed by some as a fake but if one gets to know me one finds I am a genuine person, there is far to much hate and untrust to fear in this world to worry about fake gender,

What needs to be done is sexual identity eg bi gay straight and filters imposed to stop different interests being mis matched this could be a way forward

Also instead of being a free site make it chargeable is another way to out the fakes,

It definitely helps but is open to abuse.

I was talking to someone for weeks who had no photos. Eventually they uploaded two & were holding a sign in one saying Fab & their profile name. It didn't look right though (poor quality as if reproduced) and did not show their face.

Being suspicious I suggested they do the same again but showing their face via the verified link. Needless to say they got defensive & hid their profile.

They are back on here using same profile but still not photo verified. My guess is the picture comes from an old profile of someone genuine who was silly to show it to the public, it was saved to desktop & now used to open a new profile under the name shown.

Or I could just be paranoid.

"It's just that there are so many fakers out there. They must know we can see through them?

If you can see through them then why the need for photo verification?

A

Well the first few messages you don't know and then after a while there's a dawning realisation lol

And how would compulsory photo verification change that?

Just adds a bit of insurance I suppose

How many celebrities have had photos they thought private and protected spread round the net?"

To get photo verified by fab you have to take a pic with your user name in the pic but it can be from the neck down . From fabs verification page :-

'' 1: Hand write FabSwingers and your username on a piece of paper

2: Photograph yourselves holding the paper (your hands must be visible) (photo should show your faces OR full length nude if you want to hide your face).''

Sooner or later it will come.

Increased tightening caused by laws on revenge porn will require sites like this to have demonstrated that they have taken 'reasonable steps' to ensure that photos are only posted by the people in them.

In the meantime, as others say, use the variety of tools available, including common sense, to avoid too much hassle. People who are neither photo-verified nor by meets don't even appear on our radar!

I think the general presumption is that dave the trucker, posing as aimey from aintree, would find it hard to take a convincing pic of himself as a woman. Equally, a husband on here as a couple, would find it difficult asking his wife to hold a piece of of paper without her asking a few questions.

The system is not infallible, and many of you who have been on here for years and have many meets, will never need it for yourselves, but some of us find it a useful tool.

Ps apologies to any aimey from aintrees on here, I'm sure you're a nice lady really!

" !, what about all our pictures on here, which at any point, anyone can copy, has your user name and site name, along the bottom (similar if not the same as photo veri) so I can only think this argument/jovial debate, is flawed"

No, it isn't flawed and I don't understand why people are finding it so hard to see the difference.

If someone other than me sets up an account and puts my photos, taken from elsewhere, on the site, they will have the site watermark on. I may know nothing about the profile and, even if the photos with the watermark are spread around, nobody can be sure or prove I did. I can deny it.

It's very unlikely a photo of me holding a sign with my username and the fab site address could be taken without me knowing about it. If that gets spread around, it's a pretty sure thing I created the profile.

A verification photo (showing someone's face) proves someone created their profile on here. A face photo with the site watermark does not.

As for the argument that verification photos don't need to show one's face, a body pic does nothing to prove anyone is who they say they are. Plus I don't like my body and don't want to send a full length naked photo to anyone.

Some wouldn't care if it became public knowledge they are on here. Some could lose their job, be alienated from their family, have it used as grounds to try to obtain custody of children...

I am gobsmacked people can't see the difference between a normal face photo and a face photo of someone holding a sign with the site name and their username on!

People have lost their jobs as a result of being publicly outed as swingers.

People have had being a swinger used during divorce cases and custody hearings, as evidence of poor moral character and that the home environment is unsuitable for raising children, by parents wanting custody of the children.

Being outed can have serious consequences for some.

And some might just want to keep their private life private. The right to do that is protected by the Human Rights Act, so it's clearly very important to some.

There's nothing to prevent them dumping the lot into the public domain and as I pointed out, there are many other ways that private photos could end up being made public.

My point is that once it's on the 'net it's out of my control. I don't want that photo on the 'net and out of my control.

Even if it's a small risk, (and I can't know the risk without knowing how the site it secured amongst other factors), it's an absolutely unnecessary risk and taking it would not benefit me.

Yes, my fault for not getting a number to chat with them, but that is hindsight.

Verification proved at some point they were a couple and had met people.

To be effective, photo verification would need to be done monthly and the picture taken and uploaded by a third party... not very practical...
