There are many running clubs aimed at "plodders" which encourage people to get together and treat the sport as a social get together as opposed to a result orientated sport.
I'm not familiar with your area but local press or sports centres often advertise ? Good luck and remember its about personal progress |

I've never understood why people need a training buddy, I've always trained alone and that works best for me - this way, I only ever have to compete with myself, and when you think about it, what better way to improve? |

I train alone too,but were all different and sometimes having a competitive partner can inspire and pull you along or even support. |

Everyone is different, training buddies can help encourage each other, not every thing is a completion,
This time of year is a good time to start with some sort of exercise programmed as there is often free fit clubs ect set up, as someone has mentioned there's often running clubs that you can join, take a look in your local paper or your local pages on social networking sites. |

It's a good way to see if there are any walking / jogging groups in your area or you could post a thread and see if anyone else is interested too.

I always trained alone before but that was at a gym. I didn't find it convenient to have someone else there.
Now I'm trying to motivate myself to create a new routine without being able to join a gym and I'm struggling.
Someone to get out and walk with might help encourage me.
What I'm doing isn't working so common sense suggests I should try something else, no?

My local running club have a walk/run/walk group which are fab and did keep me motivated in going out each week (i run continuously but am really slow lol)
Apart from dear old fab I really haven't found a friendlier, more welcoming community than the running one. Everyone just loves running and don't care if you do a 7 minute mile or even a 17 minute mile!
Joining online communities help as well. I'm on the running bug if anyone else out there is add me!! |

I essentially run alone a lot of the time at park run as I'm not as slow as the slowest person but not as fast as the ones in front but the little boosts I get from the lappers as they tell me how well im doing spurs me on. O still only compete with myself time wise but a sense of community is a great motivator. |

The local newspaper may have a walking group advertising their outings and so on. At least with a training partner you have an added incentive to leave the house on a wet and unpleasant day.

I found the running bug to be quite good if you want a running buddy although having said that my running buddy has abandoned me to get re-married to her ex-husband who doesn't approve of our relationship . |

Have you thought about taking up a team sport? Badminton, netball etc? Good exercise and social and you can't talk yourself out of it as you'll be letting the team down |

My mum does park run and is always trying to get me to go with her....I'm not sure if I can cope with the trauma of being lapped by my 60 year old mum though! (I can't jog for longer than about 3 minutes.... ) |

Parkrun is a great social exercise, no pressure, the hardcore runners will speed off but all abilities are welcome and you see familiar faces which kind of acts like a buddy-incentive. You can walk, walk for a but then run for a bit (and repeat), it's surprising how quickly you improve.
I used to train alone (despite the above I enjoy running alone to de-stress ) but I do more team/group based activities and that pushes me more than I'd have thought.
Dance classes/yoga classes and things like that also are good, but depending on interests you'll find something that's right for you.
