Hurt me with the true but don't comfort me with a lie...
Jump to: Newest in thread
Depends really. If I am just about to make an important presentation and I ask you how I look, tell me I look great even if I look like a bag of spanners but tell me after not to wear that outfit again. Important stuff ? Truth every time. |

Truth, in a reasonable way, every time.
But opinions, advice, predictions and impressions aren't truths as they are subjective to the paradigm of the person expressing them. Though I'd still take them over having them bottled. |

"I always prefer to be told the truth, no matter how much it hurts. A lie to keep me happy rarely does as it never feels like the truth.
"
I think you can definitely know when there is Lie or not..
Lie is like a wispy layer in front one's eyes, one knows that it is fake but pretend the contraire to remain somehow "happy" |

The truth it has to be, because once you find out the lie that hurts even more, id much rather tell people how i feel, than lie and rick losing them that way |

I have had experience of this and lost a what i thought was a good friend over it.
Rather than coming to me straight away with something, a lie went on for 8 months before it all came out in a heated row to be used as venom against me.
Now if the truth had been told at the beginning i would have laughed it off and been able to defend myself.... but now i feel humiliated, embarrassed and emotionally a bit fucked up about it all |

"Truth every time. I'm a big girl and can deal with it. Truth takes courage. To lie is being a coward "
I agree most of the time it is. The truth is sometimes harder to deal with, or handle tactfully so no-one is hurt, and it forces us to face things we could otherwise avoid facing. But it's value far, far outweighs the downside in my opinion.
Give me the truth every single time, but deliver it with love and kindness.

"Truth often hurts but turns out for the best in the end
No it doesn't,not in my experience ie cheating husband "
While it must hurt like a bitch to find out, wouldn't the lying to you for years and then you finding out have been worse?
Hids |

I sometimes wonder. My ex had to confess, otherwise the girls boyfriend would have told me,he found texts on her phone from my ex. We'd only adopted our two little girls two years previous. The devastation in the years afterwards have had me thinking whether ignorance is bliss. Eight years on there's still consequences,my youngest blamed me for not letting her dad come home,I just couldn't forgive me. So the truth alway's isn't the best course of action,it's much more complicated... |

Unfortunately children can't see the full picture until they're older. Once she is older and able to understand fully she will see that her Dad made a terrible choice but it was his choice. Unfortunately you are the one that's left to live with the consequences |

'You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!' (Jack Nicholson, Few good men). I often think of this quote when i'm at work dealing with incompetent managers who don't like being told they have screwed up.
It depends on what the truth involves - if it is whether someone looks nice, maybe a lie isn't any great deal, but if there is a problem and you don't confront it, then not being truthful can cause more problems further down the line. |

"It takes some guts to tell the truth, so rather than being hurt, I admire anyone that has the bottle to do it."
Made me think straight away of Tom Hardy in Locke... when he has the balls to tell the truth ! even if it is a dirty truth... |
