i see this on quite a few threads about 'celebs' and quite often my initial reaction is....'yeah right!!!'

i'll admit that some of the more obscure references to people that are well known in their respective fields such as random punk jazz musiscians or lower league sports etc people might not know who they are but on a lot of the threads its about fairly well know, often talked about in the news or on tv that people are alleging they dont know who they are.

Are they for real or are they trying too hard to be all cool and not down with popular culture cos thats sooooo cliche darling?!?!

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I don't know a lot of the pop or TOWIE people. I rarely know the sport people.

I listen to R4 so unless they are there or on something I am watching I can blissfully not know them.

I didn't know that one of the celebs on Strictly came from TOWIE until almost the end and I didn't who the Irish woman was until after she left the show.

Is it an age thing though ? No I haven't a clue who many of the celebrities are but quite possibly that's because I don't follow the shows they're in. Good luck to them...I don't feel I'm missing out though.

We don't read popular magazines or papers, we don't watch a great deal of TV and we don't spend too much time trawling the net for celeb news.

So yeah, in many instances, we do have to check who is who

Couldn't name am England footballer other than Rooney if my life depended on it.

Don't watch soaps or reality TV.

Have no idea what passes for popular music

I think it's safe to say that many celebrities are unknown to me. There are names that I might recognise but I would likely have no idea why they are famous or what they ook like

Reality TV and soaps etc completely pass me by...

'Are they for real' means are they really telling the truth (or just trying to be cool and pretending they don't know).

The majority of adverts are online, they pop up on many websites. people are obviously going online as they wouldn't be here.

I've no idea why people feel the need to type they don't know certain celebrities, if you don't know them why post on the thread as it can't interest them. But hey ho if it makes them happy so be it.

It's quite easy to go online without seeing too many adverts, it depends on the sites you're looking at.

I don't think I've ever joined in a thread about a celebrity just to point out that I don't know who they are but just as you've no idea why people do that I have no idea why it bothers people that they do.

I only go online on my phone and I get no adverts whatsoever on here.

I haven't bought a newspaper in years and rarely watch the telly. The radio station I listen to is talksport and this is where I mostly get my news from. I am totally out of touch with popular culture. I couldn't name or recognise a pop song or star from probably the last ten years. Celebrity culture has mostly passed me by , and while I am aware of programmes such as X factor and the jungle one I could be sat next to one of the contestants on the bus and be oblivious.

I often stick up the who question when celebrities are mentioned. I am the most uncool person I know.

Durr, keep up, even I've managed to work out she's something to do with that Mr Beckham fella. (I think they were partners on that "Strictly Dancing in the Jungle on Ice" though it may have been "Britain's got a Pointless Little Brother")

I'm no longer allowed to watch Strictly since Mrs ddc finds it distracting when I keep asking which one of each pair is the famous one. Though in my defence, it's been going so long I recognise more of the professional dancers now, and even remember the name of that Len Goodyear.

Often I have to resort to Google, even to get the jokes in Private Eye, but I would never show my ignorance in a public forum for fear of ridicule.

(Which is why I'll kick myself if I'm wrong about Miranda Beckham, just going to check she didn't play Baseball with him when he was with the Boston Rednecks)

Mr ddc

who's Miranda ?

Mr ddc"

Ohhhh good grief me too! I often wonder which the famous one is on stuff like Strictly.

When I was a teenager and my parents didn't know who my fave pop stars were I was like sooo

Noooooo.......... I'm ........ old!!!

Lol, interestingly, the one exception is 'Pointless', where it's the children who have learnt not to ask, knowing it means being forced to watch you-tube clips from the 1970's!
