Newcastle and Gateshead

okay... so how many of you people are giving up the booze for the next 30 days????

and supplementary question... if i only really drink non alcoholic beers anyway...

a) are you allowed to have mine,

b) do i have to give up mine in solidarity.. cause you will have to prize it from my cold hands....

c) can I gloat at you for not drinking beers/wines, whilst I am drinking mine (call it payback for the other 11 months!!!)

Not me. I'm going to a party on 10th on January. I rarely drink and I don't let anyone tell me when to do what, even if it's for charity. No,I didn't do the ice bucket challenge

Yeah drinking in moderation comes with maturity - and not wanting to puke haha!

I haven't decided on dry January yet, actually I have a bacardi n in my hand so I guess that's a no!

I can't give up the booze - because I don't drink anyway.

Well, except maybe for the odd very rare occasion.

"Why is not drinking alcohol for 30 days such a biggie? "

why is not doing anything for 30 days such a biggie? smoking, lent (although thats 40 days), chocolate etc

Humans like to prove that they can challenge themselves and if they can raise some money in the process for a good cause then thats all for the better.

I used to think that doing things like this was akin to saying you had a problem with drinking (i can give it up....look i did it for a whole month...now lets have a massive session to celebrate!!) but i've changed my mind now.

Haven't had any alcohol since Christmas Eve and then only had 2 pints.

Don't like drinking at home and I refuse to queue for a pint in a pub filled with people who only come out twice a year

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I never drink alone but I doubt I will be completely dry for January as I'm going to Ireland for a weekend.

I'm doing other challenges for the whole of 2015.

"Why is not drinking alcohol for 30 days such a biggie? "

It started out as a non-smoking thing, because studies have shown that people who can quit smoking for 30 days are way more likely to quit permanently. Now it's just become a thing people do for a month for no apparent reason.

That suggests to me that if anyone has to announce they are giving up anything, they have a problem with it. I'm simply trying to understand as an ex-smoker of many years and a tee-totaller.

No, but I drink so little nobody would consider it any sort of challenge for me.

I may well end up drinking no alcohol during January without setting out to do it intentionally.

I am going to finally quit biting my nails though, having given up for several months and then nibbled some of them off again.

Kent

I don't drink much but stopped drinking at all as part of my healthy eating and exercise at the beginning of September.

Had a couple Xmas eve/day/Boxing Day then that was it, no plans to have another drink any time in the future. It's just wasted calories x

South East Midlands NOT

I so rarely drink anyway that it's unlikely I will drink in January. Last time I had an alcoholic drink was on my 30th birthday in November, can't remember the last time before that.

I'm doing it, just for myself though. It coincides with starting a diet so fits in with that, and December was a bit d*unken so I don't particularly want a drink at the moment anyway!

It was. So much so I'm tempted to repeat it, but I think no bread AND no alcohol might finish me off

I dont see how giving up Alkie-Hole will help charity

A: think of the Tax the Chancellor will be losing

B: Even more Pubs will be going out of business.

It looks like i will be keeping the economy afloat single handed
