Aloo gobi is lovely
This Indian vegetarian dish of cauliflower and potato in a spiced tomato
sauce is great served over steamed basmati rice.
Ingredients
Low calorie cooking spray
2 onions, peeled and finely chopped
2 tsp garlic granules
2 tsp ground ginger
2 tbsp mild curry powder
500g potatoes, peeled and cut into small bite-sized pieces
300g cauliflower florets
1 red pepper, deseeded and cut into bite-sized squares
300g frozen peas
500ml passata
200ml water
1 tsp artificial sweetener
To serve
3–4 tbsp fat free natural yogurt
A large handful of chopped mint and coriander
Method
Spray a large, non-stick frying pan with low calorie cooking spray and place over a medium heat. Add the onions and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes.
Add the garlic granules, ginger and curry powder and stir-fry for 20–30 seconds. Add the potatoes, cauliflower, red pepper and peas and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes.
Stir in the passata, water and sweetener and bring to the boil. Cover, reduce the heat to medium and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15–20 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender. Serve drizzled with the yogurt and garnished with the chopped mint and coriander. Serve with steamed basmati rice, if desired |

I don't do diets or recipes... But eating sensibly including a bit of the nice stuff plus plenty of exercise works for me. I think you crave things more and are less likely to lose weight if you have a strict diet.
Though I rather like salad |

I've got a great choc cake recipe, but I'm too tired to go upstairs to get it. I'll post it tomorrow. It's a weight watchers low fat one but you'd never know!! |

i am just going to focus on cooking real food.
I had a lovely dinner tonight. Chicken pieces in a casserole dish with some chopped tinned tomatoes on the bottom and a load of med veg and herbs on top.....chuck it in the oven until the chicken is cooked through.
I chucked a few new potatoes in it to bulk it out a bit but could have served with cous cous etc and now i have enough to take to work with me tomorrow. |

40 years of low-fat dogma and yet we get fatter and fatter.
You go ahead and eat sugar, I'll stick to saturated fat and stay slim.
As a clever man recently said, "butter makes your pants fall off". |

I was going to say the same thing, but I normally get chased with sticks when I tell people that fat is good and it's the sugar that kills you...
Been having butter in my coffee every morning for 6 months and lost 2 stone! |

"Share your favourite low fat recipes here for those wanting to shed a few pounds but don't want to live on salads "
Slimming for me is about minimising processed carbs, avoiding sugar and eating "real" food, not about low fat.
I don't care all that much about fat when I'm slimming. In fact, low fat options often contain sugar, chemical flavourings, and other nasties that the full fat versions don't.
I find when I'm eating low carb I automatically eat less and don't have to try to cut down. |

Exactly. On a Low-carb I find myself not getting hungry until mid afternoon. Fat is far more satiating and you don't get that mid afternoon slump. |

"Maybe low fat was the wrong word...I was only trying to be helpful "
We know Just putting another perspective on it.
No one solution will work for everyone. Low carbing makes my mum ill. Everyone needs to find what works for them.
My comment wasn't meant as any sort of criticism of you. |

Have a look at this site,
www.myfitnesspal.com
If you want to lose weight, imput your personal details, and it then tells you how many calories you are allowed to eat per day.
You decide what you eat, but you must stay under your daily limit, to lose the weight.
I lost 6 kilos in 3 months.
Good luck.
Oh and its a FREE program.

As above though, it's not ideal for everyone. My mum feels dreadful on a ketogenic diet. I feel full of energy and far more well. |

Just a potato masher works for me, rather than blending to baby food.
Also if you roast the veg before making the soup it sweetens it naturally. |
