MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

check they have the proper licence plate from your local authority.

If in doubt, don't get in.

Use a proper taxi rank, and don't hail one on the street (unless black cabs etc)

Text a friend with the reg plate if that makes you feel more secure.

Or book one with a firm you trust in advance?

Booked in advance with a firm you know that's properly licensed and stuff, I'd generally feel pretty safe. Or a proper black cab.

The only time I have ever had a problem with a taxi driver is when I get picked up from chameleons, those most are fine, I have had a few of the drivers try it on with me or touch me because they know what type of club it is so think im up for it

Other than that I've never had a problem with them

the rules on taxis have changed quite considerably compared to what they was

any false taxi cab driver not only losses the car they lose the persons job as well who they loaned it off

theres also a hefty fine given to the taxi rank nowadays

taxi ranks and drivers are vetted nowadays and are pulled over more to do a vehicle and driver check upon them

so taxis are much safer nowadays

Have you explained you are a single female travelling alone to the local firm - do you use them other times through the year?

You are no more likely to get kidnapped on NYE than any other d*unken night out, so that shouldn't be a major issue

If you are that concerned, do you have any friends who may be sober and able to help?

If I'm going home alone or going out alone I always use the same cab firm or recently taxi rank near the venue I was at but a nice guy that time did make sure I got in the taxi safely

Is there a taxi rank anywhere near where you're going?

As a taxi driver I would say you are very very safe.

Make sure you used a proper private hire licenced cab.All the drivers are qualified and have been CRB checked.

Ever since my daughters were teens...and likely to get taxis we always gave them this tip.

Take a picture of the taxi plate and number plate of the vehicle. Text it to a friend....let the driver see you do this/tell them you have done it. Guaranteed safety no matter what! Simple solution.

You can all thank me later....pass this tip on!

They should still be taking bookings in advance ? ? We do where I work. As long as it's from an address n not just outside of pub etc. All drivers should be crb cleared just be confident n as people have advised try n use a reputable firm. N make note of either badge on outside of car or the drivers. Should be on display either worn or visible in car. Have a fantastic night x

I've always booked local cabs never a problem. Have to admit I find your worry strange if you've booked in advance.

I use the kabx app, they're all registered, licensed taxi firms who use that.

Firms here in chester you get a call back to know your taxi has arrived and company name is display and one sends you a text with the colour make and reg plate of the car!

Remember private hire cabs cannot be flagged down as there is no insurance unless booked, black cabs are the only ones who can be flagged down when light is on!

If you are that worried find someone to call on the journey home, or even pretend you are talking to someone

Just wanted to say that I get taxis all the time on my own and have done for years..never crosses my mind that I am not safe and feel much much safer than doing public transport.

Seriously you have built this up into way too big a deal...go out, enjoy yourself and remember that hundreds of women get taxis every second of the day

I am local to you and get taxis all the time on my own and have never had an issue. If you ring from your mobile they will text you with the reg of the taxi just before it arrives

I think taxi drivers are probably at a lot more risk than any taxi passenger.

As a taxi driver myself your better off pre booking with a registered private hire firm!!! These cannot just pick up from the street and all drivers will be checked,, and cars will be linked to gps so all details of the trip( drivers name, number, time of journey ect ) will be recorded on their data, hackney carriage(black and white) in general monitor themselves so there can be no come back if questionable??

Some very good advice there in which myself will take on board too, as I get nervous using cabs. One advice I'll add to this, is to check the amount of money you pay them, in case they try to say that you didn't hand them enough. A group of us girls booked a minibus and after we all gave him the money, he claimed that he was one portion short. After challenging him, he them produced it from his pocket.

As long as you're calling the taxi company then you will be fine. Just don't get in a random taxi

Make sure its not a hackney cab as they are BBC (big black cab) and your not into that.

they wont usually take bookings in advance on a night like tonight, but any licensed one will have no problem with you texting, or saying you are texting, the reg and licence number to someone 'at home'....just dont pick one up in the street....all the chancers will be out tonight! i lived in london for years, never had a problem, usually got black cabs, but one night, stupidly got one in the street once, not a black cab, and spent the next 3 weeks trying to get rid of a complete weirdo who kept turning up at my door!..maybe get one of your friends to at least come outside with you and see you safely into a cab...have a lovely night!
