just got my daughter a 53 plate 62000 miles on the clock, the radio is playing up the speaker on the passenger side does not work, if you tug around on the rubber going into the drivers door the driver side speaker comes on, so is it a crack in the wire or has it come loose from the back of the speaker, anyone had the same problem ?

I know they are a cheap car, but that's all you want for a new driver as it is bound to get dented, so it will do for the first year, its actually quite a nice little car to drive.

Being serious every model of car has its own unique problems and the Ka is no worse than any other.

Best thing you can do is buy some cheap replacement speakers from Halfords as the standard ones are junk anyway. When you're swapping them you'll find out whether it was faulty wiring or dead speaker.

Sounds like a busted speaker cable to me. The loom passes through a rubber pipe and flexes when the door is opened and closed and eventually breaks the wire.

It's an easy fix if you're handy with a screwdriver, you will have to remove the door card to get access though.

Never known a factory cable break there much more likely to be dodgy speaker terminal connection

As someone has said...not likely to be wiring beyond the door...remove door card..clips or and screwed on...cables to speeakers are thin...and soldered on to speakers...never buy a car that young people have had...they..boys that is...always play with what they don't know...not that you have done this...best of luck....

Look for Ka Door Card Removal on youtube, shows you how to access door speaker.

A quick google indicates this is a fairly common fault on these cars

No they're not. They're a cheap, simple, basic car built down to a price. They are a good handling, fun to drive car and a good choice as a first car.

Most helpful advice, send to scrap yard and don't buy another KA.

I hope the dents you expect are the worst it will encounter - they don't come out well in anything more serious than I gentle knock.

In a serious accident they crumple like an old 2CV.

Being realistic the KA isn't too bad a choice as a first car. The OHV engine is pretty indestructible other than the tappets sounding like a skeleton w**king in a biscuit tin but watch out for spark plugs seizing in and rust just about everywhere especially by the fuel filler.

Good little motors and a great choice for a first car. The wire issue should be easy to fix or just find a cheap backstreet type garage to have a look.

Daughters first car 52 plate 3 years back , a few small problems but overall not a bad run around for 2 years then bought her a citroen c1 which she has had for a year and loved.

Cant believe the remarks on here most would suggest buying her a 14 plate volvo estate for a year followed by the Merc two yrs down the line .
