random vagina size question

ok i know we have had enough of size threads , but after daughters friend announced on good old face book her sister was 10 cm dilated we did wonder why all women go to 10cm - how come this is standard - any medics out there know the answer - we do have some randonm conversations in our home  |

that's the cervix rather than the vagina, I guess once its at 10cm it's deemed to be ready for the next stage of labour to commence its possible that it might get bigger I guess. |

yes i apologise - cervix not vagina - but im thinking every other part of the body varies it just made us think - like things do after a drink or few  |

Just asked my daughter (she is a doctor, I'm not).
It's the minimum size normally expected before you can reasonably expect to squeeze a babies head through. Babies heads do vary greatly in size. And generally would be all over 10cm diameter (think...that's actually only 4"!).
But once that dilation is reached the pushing of the head should do the rest with minimal risk of damage.
Not always tho. Increasingly with larger babies being born the need for intervention/emergency cesareans etc is growing. |

I'd much rather vaginas dilated to the size of the babies trying to squeeze out! It would save time, pain and a lot of swearing!!!! |

My children were different weights. My daughter was bigger and definitely had a bigger head but I had a natural delivery with no problems just gas and air for stitches |
