How many of you have had presents you don't really like or need?
I know I sound ungrateful but every bloody year I get chocolates or a bottle of booze.....why
Wish people would just ask me what I might like

Maybe those buying you said chocolate or booze don't know you well enough to think of something a bit more thoughtful... Chocolates or booze are always the safe bet, and a gift is a gift after all, plus sure you wouldn't appreciate something with the same £5/6 value anyway. |

i've been very lucky...worked this morning,then had presents..bloody marys as well...few, but from those who know me well enough to get me very welcome gifts..and i gave very few, but i hope welcome ones.. |

I had nothing until my new nextdoor neighbour battered my door down a couple of hours ago with a box of choccies to cheer me up because I'm on my own this year.
It was a wonderful gesture and greatly appreciated  |

I like all my presents and grateful for them. We'e a big family with lots of cousins and over the years we've all decided at different times to stop buying each other gifts. Now it's just my parents and a couple of friends. Saves hassle and money - that I now give to charity. Win win situation   |

This post has actually just infuriating after popping outside to see the old lady next door (never met her before) washing down her front step and door, I blurt surely you could be doing that tomorrow, it's Christmas day, she replies she doesn't have anybody or family to celebrate with so just another day for her - being the soppy git I am I ask if she's alright and she starts to tell me how this is her first Christmas alone in 78 years, she lost her daughter last year to cancer and her husband in March - they'd been married 58 years!!!!
I can't say I'm sorry enough to learn that and then she asked me would I join her for a cup of tea and a mince pie (I'm actually working on a project today  )
That 20 mins of my time she couldn't be thankful enough for, I eat the mince pie even though I hate them with a passion, tea wasn't up to much either but point being after I saw your post - you're moaning you got chocolates and booze (how rude of people!!!!) that lady didn't have a present, no company, not even a tree up or decoration in her house, she was beaming that somebody, a stranger who she'd never met give her 20 mins of his time.
Now moan about your chocolates and booze!  |

I've never seen her before, doesn't seem to go out, heard her in her back garden before but that's it.
