In The Netherlands, Sintaklass has an assistant called Zwarte Piet (Black Pete) who is a blacked up character dating back to the 1850s that some killjoys have frowned upon.
My daughters enjoyed seeing him when we lived in Holland for a couple of years

True, however at some point someone requests a 'magic ring' and shortly afterward they all retire to the 'Grey Havens' - Which as everyone knows is Elvish for 'Rest Home'. |
