Just not bothering with Christmas this year? I haven't bought a single present, card, bit of festive food....nothing.....not a shred of tinsel....and I won't be either.

I'm not particularly grouchy, I simply just don't really get it, I don't believe in the religion so it feels a bit two faced celebrating it, I'm not one for following the pack and celebrating it just because its what people do and also the novelty seems reduced every year and now its just gone altogether....

I understand those with kids won't have a choice......

We've not brought each other presents this year.

We told crystal's parents last week that we are likely going away next year to avoid it. We figures 53 weeks notice might ne enough!

Even by my normal standards I'll be glad when it's over this year.

I actually enjoy Xmas Day, with all my family, but can't be arsed with the before and after. I think most nowadays just spend the time off drinking and laying about. I'm not the least bit religious but I do like to see my family all together for at least one day.

It's not that I particularly dislike it really....i'm just very indifferent to it....it's a big a blip on my radar as say Passover or Ramadan and I don't dislike those...it just doesen't really register as an event to me personally.

I do have kids and haven't bothered.

We celebrate their birthdays, they get spoilt then and it's spread out the cost so they get better stuff, without half the crap people think makes good presents. Sorry but the shops stock up on pretty crap so that people who don't know what to buy for others will spend money on crap, and if that's not a reason to cancel christmas then i don't know what is.

The saying it's the thought that counts comes from trying to hide the fact that people have not thought about what gifts someone would actually want and will buy any old shit because they think they have to buy something.

Bah humbug.

Brighton

I loathe it. People spending too much money on crap they don't want or need and getting stressed with it all.

A few years back we decided that instead of buying any gifts, we give an appropriate amount of cash to a charity instead.

We don't have much family in the UK so this year will be a quiet day at home, the two of us, play some games, watch Dr Who, drink rum and generally have a nice day. What more do you need? Certainly not giftwrapped crap we can buy any other time of the year.

(acknowledge: if we had kids, it might be different)

My worst Christmas was when I split from my ex husband only a couple of months beforehand. That wasn't fun.

Christmas is great when you are happily married with young kids. It is very different when you are single.

My husband is hating Christmas this year, as he does every year, as the kids behaviour goes off the charts crazy. We are all tired, not well, and it's difficult when they are off school and around 24/7.

I'm sat here wondering when one of my kids will go to sleep. He's supposed to be asleep by 8. I can't leave the room until he drops off. It's 8:23 and he's say eating rice cakes as he refused to eat much dinner earlier as he was too busy running around and creating chaos.

I absolutely love Christmas, and probably do go over the top. I'm from Canada so that's prob half of it and that's just how it is there... Brits do tend to play down the holidays, that's just how it is here.

Even before I had kids and was on my own I used to decorate my one bed flat haha.

I do understand though it isn't for everyone and for some it's the worst time of the yr, remembering the death of loved ones ect. My heart always goes out to all those people. Xx

I don't do anything at home (apart from my Christmas chocolates). There are no decorations and the cards are in a pile.

I have the presents wrapped and there are foody things for the Christmas Eve party and Christmas Day feast but it's really just here as overflow fridge space and an extra oven. Everything happens across the road.

We have two days of lovely things and just enjoy being a family together.

There's plenty turkey though and that's not so bad, loads of veggies and I'm sure a few other bits you can fill up on with the minimum of guilt.....

We love it but don't go overboard, a few simple prezzies and we are only allowed to spend £10 on each other. Christmas dinner is a trip to Bradford to our favourite curry house, take our own Booz and really enjoy it.

Aww I wasn't spreading misery or despair! That's not my intention anyhow, I've got no issue with christmas, its nice to see folk brought together by it or by anything, celebrate how you will

I was just saying I didn't really buy into the bells and whistles of it all really, i'll still be happy sat doing whatever I end up doing that day....don't worry, I won't be going round stealing presents and cutting down Christmas trees and i'll still be wishing folk a merry Christmas and such....

And sorry...to answer your actual comment..no I guess it doesn't have to be religious, I just drew that as an example as across all faiths there's a holiday most weeks probably, many pass un noticed by many, and Christmas is that kind of thing for me to an extent
