A question for the ladies.
I was in Tesco today and saw this attractive girl next door type. She had a short denim skirt, black tights and heels (not too high) I thought she was very sexy but not in a tarty way. Her legs looked amazing.
I was very tempted to go up to her and say how great her legs looked.
Eg. "I dont want to bother you but I just want to tell you you have the most amazing sexy legs."
If a stranger said that to you in a supermarket how would you react? How would you feel?
Would it be a compliment or feel creepy! |

It's a tricky area, you don't want to be seen as harassing.
There's a big issue these days with things like Gamergate and sexual harassment.
There's a website and twitter account called Everyday Sexism, where women posts incidents of unwelcome attention. Some of it is horrific reading.
It's not just the comments on their appearance that women have to put up with, some on a daily basis. It's the response of some guys when they're rebuffed or ignored that's quite sickening.
Personally, if someone came up to me and said "that's a lovely coat you're wearing", I'd be quite chuffed. If someone came up and said "you have cracking tits" I would be very uncomfortable.
This has actually happened to me. I was stopped for directions and as I walked away there was a comment about my breasts.
Perhaps because I was in a costume at the time he felt he was entitled to comment. I disagree.

I was once walking round Manchester and a lady told me she loved my mackintosh (the coat, not the computer)...it made my day and I still remember it now...I think if a compliment iappeqrs to be a genuine one, I'd happily accept it |

It all depends on how it's said and the state of the person saying it ( I.e. a d*unk man ) . No help there then boys .
But in my humble opinion , if I'm wearing a short skirt ( especially in this kind of weather ) I wear it to get noticed .
But a word to the wise boys this can be taken many ways , so safety first just admire .

Compliments are difficult, age gap comes into play either direction, as does location and many other factors.
I have been known to say "Wow! thank you" then walk away quickly. obviously have no idea if the compliment was appreciated or left permanent scars, but I felt the need...
I have also been known to randomly give flowers to women then walk or ride away, but I am weird |

How about just saying how stunning they look? This is bound to brighten their day and is general enough to encapsulate many other more direct compliments that you could admit when you get to know them better??? |

Personally its the type of guy who compliments it. If the girl is sgl wear tight/short clothing etc n is approached by a fit good looking guy then I 'think' it will put a smile on their face. If its an married woman n approached by a wierd looking guy..call security! Lol |

I think it's the way a compliment is delivered... You could have smiled n simply said ' you look nice today' .... I seem to get random people giving me compliments ..( usually my hair ) . I just smile back and say thank you! If however , it was in an innopropriate sexual way or i felt they being rude, I would give a sharpe tongued reply back! |

"Its a sad reflection on society when some people think a compliment is creepy or weird!!!"
Great everyone with a smile, some will be cheered, most will be afraid |

Manchester and that's all you need to know |
Something must be wrong with me then as I always tell strangers that I think they look nice in certain clothes I see them wearing (Only if they do look nice). All say thank you and smile.
Perhaps people react differently depending on your approach and more so your delivery of the complement.

I get compliments about my bum all the time, although never directly to my face. I just presume that most people are too shy for that because virtually every time I finish talking to someone and start to walk away. I hear them whisper 'what an ass'

In my opinion, as others have said, it's all about the way it's delivered - I've certainly complimented women about shoes, coats...but never legs or boobs.I think intuition can be a great help and I like to think that I can gauge how people are going to respond. Moose. |

Inappropriate!
I've had people compliment me on the colour of my hair, the perfume I'm wearing, my shoes etc not a problem.
I would however feel uncomfortable with comments about my boobs, legs etc.
That said: with all things some will appreciate it, some won't. As you have no way of knowing how the comment will be received err on the side of caution and say nothing. |

If complimenting someone is creepy how do people ever meet and get together? If I hadn't gone up to Mrs l and complimented her and talked to her we wouldn't be together now, most couples on here were strangers at some point,
I say just go up and say it, if they find it creepy then that's there issue not yours, if I saw an attractive lady somewhere I would go up and say can I just say you are beautiful then walk off, job done, |

A man has come up to me and said "what a lovely smile, pretty lady" and it brightened my day. I ignored and thought a creep the man who looked at my chest and said "phoar, that's a two hand job!"
It's like on here: a love your profile type message is preferable to me than a come fuck my arse one. |

Most guys who are being creepy and giving what they consider a compliment know precisely what they are doing. They hide behind the excuse that they are 'only' giving a compliment. |

A sexualised "compliment" is just creepy I'm afraid! Plus as others have mentioned things like age come into play.
If you want to talk to someone strike up a conversation |

Talk about timing.
I got given a compliment by a young sales assistant yesterday about my Christmas jumper. She was very smiley and we chatted for a few minutes...she was quite flirty too.
Compliments can definitely be a good thing! |
