Meet for coffee

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

I met for a coffee today

After weeks of email and texts and cam chats we finally met in the flesh

It was just for coffee

And you never said a word

It was uncomfortable and a little sad

So now the email I get is full of gushing adjectives for a great afternoon?

Where was I in this little jaunt because in the real world I was left wondering what had gone wrong !

I've had one of those too- you wonder at what point you dozed off and started talking in your sleep after a while

Oh don't worry the meet person is not on this site

And it was posted more out of wanting to share the frustration of a meet that didn't go that well . Not out of temper

Although I was a little sad

I think a lot of experiences are shared here and I see nothing wrong in sharing the not so great times as well as the good times

It's not a dig at my meet as my meet isn't on this site - and I see so many people sharing different experiences on the forum I thought it was applicable

Having said that I'm also aware of how these forums can respond sometimes - but I took that chance

If the guy is'nt on this site then thats fine,I was'nt aware he is'nt from this site when I posted

It would'nt have been a fair thread if he was a site user too

I can empathise with you on this Sometimes, I think you build up an expectation or a familiarity when you speak regularly or write to each other regularly, but meeting face to face is a different thing all together. A different set of senses take over and you see a different person in front of you to the one you thought you knew

whoops i read it as an open message to the user, didnt realize he wasnt on this site. Maybe you could send him the message to see why he behaved in such a manner. Some people can be extremely shy and use the pc to take that shyness away yet when it comes to meets clam up.

Yes I think your right cumplaywithme - so much had been said and done by text it left a certain expectation

Not sure how to not repeat the situation but it's nice to know I'm not alone

Perhaps that person enjoyed him/herself by your presence. Perhaps he/she needs to get out more?!

Personally, I do not find shy introverts fun to have around, and would think twice about meeting someone whose messages via FAB fail to grip my attention.

If I find them hard work via PMs and chats, then it is likely they will be hard work face to face!

That's what was so odd Pearl as we have chatted to the wee hours on text

I honestly didn't see it coming but I guess real life just didn't match up for either of us!!

.

Some people are bolder behind the safety and security of a computer screen, and often appear to be a lot more outgoing/arsey/confrontational/whatever than when meeting face to face!

I agree with Pearl. When ever I get a message from a guy saying 'im a little shy at first' I politely decline. What good is shy ?

I'm shy first meets face to face do not see me at my best but I always seem to get a second chance

I agree about the shy bit as it makes me nervous as I am very much not shy and my confidence makes their shyness seem exaggerated so all very uncomfy

Well. I didn't think this thread would go this far but I guess the thing I take from this is that initial meets may need a different approach to the one you have on line

Perhaps I scared them - perhaps not but it's been interesting reading all your notes and quite comforting actually - so thankyou x

I have to admit to being really nervous when first meeting anyone, but jeez, you got to make conversation!

I think too much msn and texting can take the edge off things. Get a social (and I mean social)meeting and you will know in the first few minutes whether there is anything there or not.

lol no cheque needed was a great way to have spent a sunday afternoon with 2 great hosts, we have similar meets 1 cpl we had emailed and spoke on the phone with was fantastic pic`s was great too but was all taken alone and in different settings when we met, they was older than pic`s and gained lots of weight it turned out they had only been together 3 months and married a week or 2!!!!! and had faces like a smacked arse, it was the worst meet we ever had and was pleased to leave the pub and go to a back up cpl who was plenty of fun and had been swinging for yrs and pics was up to date, the other cpl was threatening to sue the pub for serving him a dodgy burger causing a massive scene very embarrassing, soon after there profile was deleted thank god lol, happy swinging to all but it just goes that way sometimes x andy n dee
