Scones. I remember making perfect scones with my Nan. Now I just get flat miserable looking things come out the oven. They taste great just impossible to slice in half.
Any tips? |

Don't leave it to stand, it's best to make them just before you're ready to bake. Made some with the following recipe at the weekend which worked well:
400g (14 oz) plain flour
100g (3 3/4 oz) caster sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp bicarb of soda
3/4 tsp salt
175g (6 oz) soft butter
250ml (8 fl oz) buttermilk |

"Use a good grade flour too. I noticed the cheap flour doesn't work as well in any recipes
Ill get better flour too thank you"
That is very true the quality of the flour is vital.
The next batch will be delicious! |

- Yep, good flour is always good. If it's been hanging around a bit, try adding a bit of baking powder - but I usually ditch it in favour a=of a new bag |
