Hey
So just need a little advice my current housemate is receiving a months notice to leave the property due to a number of issues that I wont go into but suffice to say the landlord wont be giving him a reference.
He has turned round and said that i owe him £135 for gas/elec and sky, now the sky shouldnt be much as he should be paying majority as he got sky sports etc and made some expensive calls on the landline!
The gas/elec figure he could be making up as has no receipts!
Now the thing is i have spent roughly £130 myself on gas/elec too (its one of those card meter things)
He also broke a very expensive and sentimental vase of mine, which he didnt offer to replace or pay for, didnt even apologise.
There's wear and tear on my furniture., couches etc and he hasnt done any cleaning despite me constantly discussing the fair share of cleaning between us, so is £20 per month fair for me to charge for cleaning the whole house (especially the bathroom after him)
I dont want to appear bitchy but i dont think its very fair on me that I have had to incur just as many charges.
What do you think would be the best way in doing this? |

Don't pay....simples. He will be gone soon. Tell him you will pay when he leaves....and give him an envelope with your listed deductions and enough for a taxi Fare out of your life! |

If you're not friends/planning on staying in touch?
Tell them you'll sort it before they move out.
Then the day they go tell them to do one.
That way there's no risk they'll damage your stuff in the meantime.

Did you have anything in writing agreeing who was paying what and how much ect? If not then it's only their word against yours, I'm guessing that they are not to happy that they have been given notice to leave. |

If he's got no receipts it's his word against yours. He wouldn't have a leg tostand on. If you wanna remain friends explain why you aren't going to pay (still he may end the friendship) if you don't care, tell him to go fuck himself!! Lol xx |

I've just re read it.
You cannot charge him for cleaning or for the vase he broke.
Nothing you say would stand up in court.
It's probably best that you both behave civilly and part without demand on each other.

With the gas/electric if it's key/card and you both have receipts look through them as it sounds like you've both paid roughly the same. Sky - is your phone element itemised, as again you can work out who owes what for that.
Hopefully your next housemate will be a better one. |

I dont want it to be acrimonious but also dont think its fair him doing this when i have spent out a lot of money also and cannot afford to be out of pocket.
We didnt have agreement re payment of bills so yes its his word against mine id just like to do it fairly!

from reading its not going to end up fair in either way personally i think your better off forgetting about it even if it means your out of pocket ive done roughly same and just let it go for the best i still even did more house shares later but watched out alot better to make sure i wasnt out of pocket as much when they moved on
but please do take note with the arguments to follow they will come so please be ready for them
also dont pay anything other than what you need to do in your house share |

from reading its not going to end up fair in either way personally i think your better off forgetting about it even if it means your out of pocket ive done roughly same and just let it go for the best i still even did more house shares later but watched out alot better to make sure i wasnt out of pocket as much when they moved on

I wont do.. Ive spoke to my landlord about it and basically he has said if he gets arsey he will just deduct from the deposit because cleaning etc was part of the agreement so my landlord has my back and obviously i am not paying him for gas & elec when ive paid out to so not going out of pocket on that one |

Tell him you will pay once he has gone and cleaned up his fair share of mess and had things fixed. Fuck him off had he could do far more damage than that in the final days. |

He'a been warned should he do damage to anything then the locks will be changed and the police will be called, thats direct from my landlord not me!
My landlord isnt taking any shit off him as basically housemate text him saying 'dont play the hardass with me you fairy' when landlord was trying to contact to have an engineer let in (i was away) and as landlord is gay it was an obvious slur which is why ive got a lot of support from him i just dont want anything getting nasty im already waiting for surgery so the stress makes me sicker! |

Consider no claims that have no paper evidence. Your vase could be claimed so back it up with receipts etc.
I think the cleaning fee is reasonable but should have

agreed in advance but still worth a try.
Overall list your claim items and give him your demands. Pay him zero and balance his demands only that are backed with evidence against yours.
Resist payment of anything. |
