What is the benefit, if any?

Do they work?

Would you recommend them?

My housemate uses one called "One More Rep". He claims it makes him push a bit harder. Just makes me bouncy. All they mostly are is concentrated caffeine.

Have a strong black espresso 20 minutes before training. Does the same thing and is cleaner.

Depends whether you want to gain/lose weight/muscle etc hun.

As most women exercise to lose/maintain weight and tone muscles rather than build muscle mass - most of us stick to water - but don't exercise on a completely empty stomach as you'll feel faint.

Xx

I know all the little tips like banana, coffee etc. I'm specifically looking for advice on the prework drinks not alternatives, thanks

They're all loaded with sugar or caffeine to provide a kick up the bum to start with but it rarely lasts a whole workout. If you really do wish to try them. Look up 'Mr Hyde' pre-workout. It's like rocket fuel apparently.

Grab a strong coffee and a high energy snack.

If you are eating clean, don't bother with the pre workout drinks. They are basically bad sugar, carbs and caffeine.

But their effect is short lived, and they can become addictive.

Be careful if your ears start itching youve taken too much . But if you find a good one they do make a difference. For all of you that take a strong coffee before a workout that will have stopped helping you after the first week go back to water

I've heard No-Xplode is really good. But, to be honest i haven't really ever used a pre workout drink.

However, from what i've heard. That particular workout drink does get you going.

..haven't gone to the gym for a while now and i've gone fat!! Need to go back now after reading this thread!!

No sugar, cals or fat, sounds suspiciously like H2O.

"What is the benefit, if any?

I'm a qualified personal trainer.

You almost certainly don't need them.

Unless you *know* you do.

They're almost certainly useless calories.

Used to be one called Jack 3D and ultimate orange (I think) they would give you a buzz and almost a placebo like boost but then you couldn't sleep after and it used to make my chest itch horrible. Along with the shakes.

Now I just happily use water and if I get shakey I eat a banana.

For me it's the mixture of ingredients along with the caffeine that after around 15 minutes after taking it I feel pumped before iv lifted a weight. And gives me that extra focus

And sometimes i make up my own drink....

When you work out you lose salt.....so

Some orange squash.....two tablespoons of sugar (you need sugar for energy)and a half teaspoon of salt....mixed with a pint of squash.....

Perfect isotonic drink !!!

"Would you recommend them?"

No.

Water has worked well for years. It's only ponces who think they need all the branded 'energy drinks'!

Happy days
