Inspired by Mr marmite, I'd like to volunteer for a charity between Xmas and new year. I have googled but haven't found anything suitable.
If anybody knows of any worthwhile charities that are in need of extra hands in the Manchester area could you let me know so I can look into it. Thank you in advance x |

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire) |
Google the volunteer centre in manchester.
Most areas have them, and they have a database of volunteering opportunities. You may find its a bit short notice to do some things as you may need a criminal record check for working/volunteering with the vulnerable.
Good luck! |

I'm not having any luck doing random searches and end up leaving it. Therefore if there's a specific charity that is close to your heart and can provide details I would greatly appreciate it xx |

I'm not entirely sure how it works in england as I'm in Scotland, but up here a PVG check (same as crb) needs updated for every different group you volunteer for.
Try the volunteer centre - they will be able to advise and see where you can be best placed. |

"All depends what kind of charity you want to help....."
I don't really have a preference so am looking for inspiration. Obviously as I'm sure most people will agree I'd like to help kids but know other charities need help too. Think I'd prefer a small charity that doesn't get a lot of funding and really need the help. I may even chose to help a different one each day. I'm just very apprehensive ATM and often have ideas that never come to fruition so wanted to take a pro active approach. |

thanks for this - I was out with a friend last week and she said she was struggling to volunteer - organisations just never got back to her which I can imagine would be frustrating |

Whatever you choose, know that you're doing a wonderful thing.
Both Mrs N and myself volunteer for a cat shelter. Cleaning, feeding, rehoming help, vet runs etc. nothing huge but as the saying goes. Every bit helps. |

You are welcome.
Most areas over the country have a volunteer centre. In my day job I work really closely with the one up here - and I work for a charity that supports community volunteers. They are a great resource and often have databases of charities large and small looking for an extra set of hands, and can skills match. Its a great thing to do.
Volunteering was my route back into paid employment after 14 years out of work due to illness. I cannot recommend it highly enough! |

I was thinking Manchester dogs home especially with their recent tragedy. However, they might be getting a lot of help because of that so it'd be nice to help those that struggle to get help. |

Search food banks in your local area, they are usually listed on google and may need help over Xmas. |

I am planning on taking food to donate. And would like to help as many as possible if that's feasible. |

"Google Do It. Its a very good resource for charitable opportunities."
I am scrolling through the opportunities but they all seem permanent which unfortunately I can't do as I have a full time demanding job. I will continue looking though and let you know if I find anything, thank you. Xx |

I will be delivering food at a church for their food bank and will ask while there. |

If you can't find anywhere maybe raise some money for a charity - where I work we've just raised money for Pets As Therapy - they go into hospitals/schools/hospices etc and work magic! |

I am doing a couple of events next year which I plan on raising money for and having such a small social circle its unfair to keep asking the same people. Also, I really wanted to be hands on, I'm sick of always concentrating on me and mine at Xmas. I wanted to spread some cheer, visit old people with no families, feed the homeless, help kids who need it, volunteer at pet shelter, that sort of thing. |

After searching many times it may be time to admit defeat. There is just not any openings for fair weathered volunteers. I wish I could do it all year and was hoping that if I got involved with a charity they'd understand I can only help out at short notice and couldn't commit to certain days. Maybe next year I'll be more organized and not look last minute. |

It all depends what you want to do, if your Not bothered then try looking at dogs trust or the rspca, or a local dog rescue, they are always looking for people to come in and walk The dogs, no crb needed |
