By the time I arrive everyone here will have eaten so it will be a quick meal for one. No special food for me at christmas Im always on the road when the big meals are being served.

"And don't forget folks before you tuck into your big dinners round the table it's always nice to have a toast to absent fiends and family "

I dont know if its my family, being lower class or what. But I was brought up thinking that toasting, raising a glass etc was a bit snooty or prim and proper and that it was all for show and there for not something we ever did. I guess it rubbed off on me because Id feel really stupid doing it and my kids would just ask what I was talking about.

Ive been lucky not to have lost any significant family other than my grandparents and I remember them often not just at specific days so just doesnt seem a need to make some public show of rememberance.

Anyway I wasnt knocking you for saying it. Each to their own I guess I was just thinking out loud

"How do you make the best roast potatoes? "

Parboil potatoes for 10 mins

Roughen them up by tossing them in pan

Preheat lard in an oven pan and preheat oven to as high a heat as possible

Put potatoes in pan of lard and cook in oven for about 1hour

Try to keep oven as hot as possible
