There has been a lot of slagging off if the police in here recently, accusations of brutality etc due to recent stories in the press. Did anybody read the story yesterday about the man in one of the Scottish Islands wandering the street with a scoped rifle threatening the public and aiming it directly at the police. The police had no idea what type of gun it was but the story said that had it not been for the professionalism of the officer then he would have been shot dead. I just wondered why nobody on here is singing their praises as I'm sure they would be getting called fit to burn had they shot the guy dead.

Some do and some don't. They are in a position of great responsibility which is why failures lead to great negative publicity.

So start a thread about it? Oh you did, but with enough of a twist that it will evolve in to a slating of the police thus proving your theory that people want to slag off the police

I suspect the only reason that kid is alive is because of the limited population where it happened.

The police did a fantastic job in this case but where would be the scope for criticism if they had shot him. He had a gun. It's not like he was running for a tube or walking home passed a police line.

I agree, in my opinion there would have been no scope for criticism if they had shot him but a lot of people would find reason to jump on the bandwagon and give them a slating. The gun turned out to be an air rifle but they had no way of knowing that until they examined it.

But would there have been a bandwagon? I've never seen people defending Mark Duggan on here Most would agree that if you carry a gun you are putting yourself at risk. The incidents that provoke anger are very different.

There's always a bandwagon where slating the police is concerned. Look at the post for when the cop in America shot the 12 year old who had a gun in the school yard. It was a similar incident to this one albeit a child was involved, that cop didn't know the gun was fake but look at the slating he got. I'm not getting into that because that's been done on here already.

The point I was making is that nobody mentions the many good things that the police do yet they come out of the woodwork to slag them off as soon as the opportunity arises.

Maybe that is because 'police doing their job properly' should be the norm and is what people expect?

I truly feel sorry for the coppers who shot Jean Charles De Menezes. Whilst he was indeed the wrong man and an innocent victim. He was shot not because those on the ground that day set out to shoot him but because of the intelligence that they were passed. And it's those who passed it who should have been held to account. People need to remember it's not those who pull the trigger who are solely to blame.

The video of the two cops in America who shot that kid has been released I saw it on livelink...

I wasn't that impressed with their actions, I'm no expert but they pulled up in their car within six foot of a guy with a gun! Or as it turned out a child with a fake gun.

Mark duggan is another strange case where nobody saw a gun except the cops that shot him.

Now I'm neither condemning them nor applauding them, I'd rather let independent tribunals do that, but that appears (although better than it used to be) still rather shoddy at times.

Maintain the flow of traffic and ensure that people only park for the allocated time . Those who get tickets should realize that the spaces where they park are only free because the majority of us adhere to the rules . As far as I am concerned , traffic wardens do a good job.

If we didn't have traffic wardens we would have anarchy. It's hard enough squeezing my car down narrow streets as it is. (Ok it's my fault for having a pimp wagon)

Traffic wardens are what separates us from the beasts.

I think that is the same for everything though, people shout the loudest when something goes wrong and hardly ever when they things go right a huge percentage of the time.

saw that .... but we shouldn't tar all of them with the same brush just because of the actions of the minority

. If people are either armed or using fake guns I have absolutely no sympathy if they are shot. You cannot expect a police officer to do nothing and wait to be injured . What I fail to understand in the case of Jean Charles De Menezes is why no warning was given before the police opened fire or did the genuinely believe that he was a suicide bomber . This was a badly managed operation in which an innocent member of the public lost their life .
