A lovely old friend visited today and gave me my present , and insisted I open it there and then.. It's a lovely pair of fluffy gloves but in bright pink.. Not my colour at all, but I know my other friends daughter would love them so thought I would pass them on. As a Christmas gift.. Is this cheap and mean?  |

I think it depends how personal the gift is / how much time they've spent on choosing it. If I thought someone had spent a lot of time and effort getting something for me they thought would be a good present, then even if I didn't like it I wouldn't regift. If they haven't, then I probably would, and I wouldn't mind if someone did that with something I'd got them either. |

My aunt who loves all things for bath/shower etc has her birthday on the 2nd jan. Without fail i get some smellies for Xmas that I'll never use so she always gets them plus a little something else x |

Not at all. If they're no good for you and won't get used it's better for someone to get use of them.

My niece, who never bought me prezzies though I always bought her really decent gifts, regifted me a pale pink pair of acrylic gloves and a scarf. They were very cheap and nasty, and were not ever anything I would use - I only ever wear gloves for driving and they are always leather. She knew this.
I had bought her and her boyfriend a rather expensive set of French designer cutlery for their new kitchen. Her boyfriend then, half-laughingly, asked if I had got him an individual prezzie. I told him I had spent the same on him as he had on me - that shut him up.
I don't buy prezzies to receive them - but that re-gifting was a piss take. A nice card would have been better. |

ever been to a WI summer or xmas fair - gift recycling at its best - my mother in law said some of the raffle prizes became a joke as they reappeared year after year |

I received a gift for my birthday that was cheap, tacky and would never make any use of it.
I waited for her birthday, wrapped it up and gave it back to her ... Weeks later, a friend informed me that she was not impressed with my gift as I had obviously put no thought into it and too stingy to buy anything decent |

It would depend on what's behind the gift. I have some old ones that I've no use for yet and perhaps never will, but was touched by the person and gift.
Tat may get regifted if it had no great significance. I use hospice shops if I don't know someone who needs it. |
