B.a.s.f those lovely compact cassette manufactures of the 80s manufactured the gas zyklon b which the nazis used in the concentration camps. |

In Japan people with tattoos are banned from most public hot springs and baths, sleeping on the job is considered ok as it's seen as a sign of hard work, there's a festival to celebrate the penis and fertility and a Japanese survivor of the titanic was branded a coward for not dying with the rest of the passengers |

Santa's reindeer are lesbians.
They are undoubtedly female (male reindeer shed their antlers in the winter, the females retain theirs). So as they are female and have butch names like Blitzen and Donner, it's a reasonable assumption they are lesbian

"The electrons in electricity only travel at about walking speed 3mph"
Too simplistic. In a conductor the electrons rattle around randomly at the Fermi velocity, which varies depending on several factors.
If an Emf is applied, the net charge propagates at near light speed (approx 300,000 km/s.
Think of it like a wave propagating through water, the actual water moves very little (until the wave breaks), the energy pulse flows through it. |

Electric current (electricity) is a flow or movement of electrical charge. The electricity that is conducted through copper wires in your home consists of moving electrons. The protons and neutrons of the copper atoms do not move. The actual progression of the individual electrons in a given direction through the wire is quite slow. The electrons have to work their way through the billions of atoms in the wire and this takes considerable time. In the case of a 12 gauge copper wire carrying 10 amperes of current (typical of home wiring), the individual electrons only move about 0.02 cm per sec or 1.2 inches per minute (in science this is called the drift velocity of the electrons.). If this is the situation in nature, why do the lights come on so quickly? At this speed it would take the electrons hours to get to the lights. |

See my post above.
Or, think of it this way:-
You join a queue to see the doctor, everyone is seated. The people are the electrons. The person at the head of the queue goes in to see the doctor, leaving a vacant seat by the door. Everyone shuffles up one seat. Now the vacant seat (positive charge) is at the other end. The vacant seat moved from the head of the queue to the end of the queue very quickly.
As I said above, it's the charge that migrates, at near light speed. |

"Stars you see are no longer there the light you see is when they exploded millions of years ago"
Not true for vast majority. Stars are all the same as our Sun....they give out light and heat. What is true is that we are seeing them as they were in the past. So a star 1000 light years away...we are seeing it as it was 1000 years ago as the light took that long to get here.
SOME of them may have exploded....and in time we will see this as a "supernova". That is an exploding star. Our own sun will possibly do this in about 4 to 5 thousand million years....but maybe not as it is rather a small star as things go. |

Because once they start to move they basically "push" all the other electrons along so some are pushed through the filament instantaneously.
As our mains electricity is in fact alternating current and reverses 100 times per second (1 full cycle is 50 per second) then each electron simply vibrates back and forth a distance of 0.0002cm. It is this vibration that gives electricity the hum you can hear in large cables and sub stations etc.
When you flick the switch every free electron in the wires move simultaneously. So instant light. |

Almost....see my post above (and yes I have simplified it, yes I do have a physics degree) |

Gliders are always white so that they reflect all of the sun's light. White is used to reduce temperature rise due to solar heating, if they were coloured, the wings would absorb too much heat and become too pliable. Result would be like an anvil dropping to the ground in a Roadrunner cartoon |

"IBM designed the system which the Nazi's employed to make the concentration camps so efficient. " .
I love Nazi Germany quotes there's just so many of them.
Objects don't have any colour perse, they merely contain certain elements that absorb aspects of the spectrum of white light, so that the colour you see is the remaining spectrum of white light reflecting off it.
The colour of a blue summer sky is donated mostly by pressure and the amount of pollution in the air!, the less pollution the deeper the blue. |

Male mallard ducks have corkscrew shaped penises and mate basically via gang rape.
There is a subspecies of weevil where the female has no vagina, so the male drills a hole in the female using his nose (which doubles as his penis) and deposits the semen thus. |

"Boll Weevil" is a traditional blues song, also known by similar titles such as "Boweavil" or "Boll Weevil Blues." Although many songs about the boll weevil were recorded by blues musicians during the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, this one has become well known, thanks to Lead Belly's rendition of it as recorded by folklorist Alan Lomax in 1934. A 1961 adaptation by Brook Benton became a pop hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100.
Jimmy Page also covered it |

true- also true that banana plants can "walk" like Triffids "
And they are in fact herbs. (It's the potassium that makes em radioactive) |

"Did you know bananas are slightly radioactive?
Practically everything is, most elements have radioactive isotopes which are present in varying degrees. This is called background radiation. "
Eating more than six bananas can result in a fatal potassium overdose; however this would only prove fatal if the victim were completely inactive, bedridden for example.
That is also going in my new book 'The Worlds 100 Most Crap Suicides'. |

"Gliders are always white "
Predominantly, but not always.
I have seen silver ones and, of course, in WW2, we had the Horsa glider that was camouflage od drab ...
Whatever the colour tho, you wouldn't get me in one of the things |

"Did you know that HGV emmisions are so low now that in certain cities on the continent the engine / exhaust system actually works as an air cleaner" .
That's odd. Haven't the eu commission or somebody today announced that they want to ban(city centres I think?) diesel engines from 2020 |

"Did you know your hair still grow for 2 months after your dead . "
No; it doesn't. They used to think that but in fact it is the skin drawing back from the hair follicle after death, creating the illusion of growth.
The longest a chicken has lived without its head is a year and nine months. |

the physics was interesting.
wonder if either of the 2 posters can explain what the LCH is about + have they found any new , em component.
from memory a cell is made up of electron/neutron/proton.
each element in periodic table is a different combination of those 3 components- I understtod the experiments at Cern were trying to find out if there is another 'component'?
did they succeed? guess not or we'd have heard?
sorry if this sounds stupid to a scientist + i got it wrong
