Some folk just can't help lying, regardless of the subject. What's the worst lie you've ever been told? Did you believe it? How did you find it out to be a lie?!

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Someone told me he had been widowed for many years and was ready to meet new people now. After meeting several times he confessed his wife is still alive and still with him.

It's certainly the most horrible and elaborate lie I have been told but not the worst lie.

Having been married for a short time to somebody who was (and probably still is) a pathological liar I can't say that any one was bigger than the other, all lies are bad.

There are two in close contention but the worst was probably being told that when he said he loved me he was thinking of the other person with my first name he couldn't say it to. That was said a few weeks after I miscarried our baby.

The girl I job share with. She's a terrible liar, but not bright enough to be plausible or to just stick to things that won't be found out within 30 seconds, or just by opening a drawer. It's nothing on the scale of the fibs told above, but it has just robbed her of any credibility.

A typical fib from her will be about when she washed some pots when we do a change over. She'll claim she washed up the night before and dried. I'll find a wet glass in the cupboard and she'll claim she had a drink in that 20 minutes ago. I then find 3 more wet glasses and she'll claim that she personally used all 4 in the last half hour. The lie is probably more work and hassle than just being honest.

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

One guy was a no show for a meet. I sent him a rather sarcastic message after. His response was that he'd broken his leg playing football and was in hospital having pins put in it due to the severity of the break. He accused me of being a bunny boiler and insensitive and that he was glad we didn't meet after seeing what I was 'really' like. Made me feel utterly shit.

A couple of weeks later he posted a status saying how he was looking forward to skiing in France that week. Bastard.

My ex would lie about anything and everything. He rang me once to tell me he was out on a job miles away and would be there for hours and so he'd be really late coming for dinner, if at all.

The twat forgot I had a caller display and could see he was ringing from his work number, which was 3 miles up the road. When he eventually turned up I told him his dinner was in the dog!

Ditto. My ex also told lies on a grand scale. His family told me he told his parents he was dying of cancer, yet outlived them. He never had cancer. He got hold of a guy's phone number and told him I'd left him cos he was dying of AIDS (obvious implication that I would be HIV positive).

my ex told the bank manager that his parents were stuck in a country that had just been taken over by a military regime and he needed money to get them out.

He got the money and a letter from the bank manager hoping that he managed to get his parents out safely.

They were staying in Wolverhampton at the time

I met a guy in a club that I started seeing... He made up a whole new life!! A few semi true bits thrown in but all twisted. I didn't find out until his lovely ex contacted me (thank goodness she did bless her) he's now engaged to a girl he knocked up while he was with me!!

Its put pay to any future relationships!!! I'll stick to cats and ponies!! Haha

On a not too dissimilar theme, a while ago a chap tried to get a meet with a uniform chaser as he was 'on leave from Afghanistan'. All of his pics were of him in uniform, which he seems to have worn to all of his meets, judging from the verifications and his username reflected being a soldier.

He fell down on two points, one someone had served with him at basic training and he'd not even finished that and two, he'd used the same details on another site, where he was claiming to be a mercenary/security specialist....

I was told by a woman she was divorced - we spoke on the phone without any restrictions on time etc, so all seemed good. I found out when he walked into the coffee shop where we were after following her.

Apparently, I wasn't the first she had done this to, the husband explained that to me as he frogmarched her out!

Not sure on the worst lie but my mother is a compulsive liar, its so bad that I find it difficult to tell whether its a fabrication on the truth or an out and out lie because when you challenge her, she either denies saying it or ignores you whilst she tries to think up another lie to cover herself. I think its part of her 'victim' personality as she never takes responsibility for anything she does wrong, its always something or someone else fault and puts on this front so people think she is wonderful, tragically they all see her for what she is
