I was getting voicemails left on my mobile for weeks saying my Scirocco had been urgently recalled. I kept phoning back to say I don't own a Scirocco and they'd mixed the numbers up, but they kept calling every day saying it was high risk. Wouldn't get a Scirocco now after that. |

Take it to a garage and have it plugged into their diagnostics. Most garages can do this for about £30 don't take it to the VW dealer as they'll charge you nearer £100 claiming theirs is dedicated software (which it won't be sincethe introduction of EOBD2 compliance).
If the car isn't in limp mode (reduced performance restricting the engine to 3000rpm) then it's possibly fine to drive. |

Is it a diesel by any chance. The exhaust could mean your DPF needs a regen, which means you just need to thrash the arse off it! (layman's terms....lol) |

It comes on if your exhaust gases have too much CO2 or particulates. Normally a slight problem with fuel/injection/ignition system. Just means you will use more fuel most times. |

I took my BMW to my local mechanic when a yellow warning light came up on the dash. Known him for years and he used to be a rally car events mechanic so knows his stuff. He put the diagnostics machine on and cleared the yellow warning light from the dash, then said there is nothing wrong with it just carry on driving it. Cost me £20 and not had a problem with it since. Yellow light has not returned either. |

Try your local Independant VW/Audi service place - less £'s than a VW Dealer. Difficult to guess that the lights mean - but yes, could be the emissions system. If you do a lot of short runs, then a good blast might clear things out....!! |

"DPF gets clogged up with lots of short journeys. A good thrashing will warm up the exhaust and DPF making it burn the carbon away and regenerate itself"

As has been said before, its probably the dpf clogged up. A good thrash should clear it. I did my passat early hours of morning down the motorway. Full chat in 3rd gear
If it doesnt clear it there is a good vw independent garage in Doncaster called Deutche Mark |

"Diesels
They're fine if you do the mileage and know how to maintain them."
True but 7000RPM is far to entertaining for me to even consider a diesel

Thats ok if you can afford to put fuel in a car that drinks like an alchy at high revs. A lot of diesels nearly rev that high now tho |

Make sure it gets taken for some good long drives on the motorway, low gear, high revs. This Will force a regen of the DPF and also clear out the EGR valve and inlet manifold. |

My Alfa has 340ftlbs of torque from 1500rpm. That's all the power you need and I still get over 50mog.
If I didn't do the mileage I'd probably have the 3.2 though....;-) |

this!
This is the problem with every diesel now after 09 I think , they all have to have dpf so unless you are a motorway muncher or a boy racer they are more hassle than they are worth |

That's mainly because those "experts" are often a dealer who will charge through the nose for a simple generic diagnostic then tell you a part needs replacing rather than simply cleaning. In this particular case a dealer diagnostic would cost around £100 and a new DPF around £1000. The OP took advice from people on here who know what they're talking about and what was their outlay? Nothing!
If the lights come back, which is always possible, then any garage can do the diagnostic for around £30. Dealers are just pirates looking to make money from people who don't know any better. I say good on the OP for asking on here first and saving time and money. |

Don't most of the saloon car race teams use diesels for racing now?
I had a Volvo V50 D5 that I had remapped and it was awesome, 0 - 60 in just under 5 seconds. |
